Arleene Mapledoram Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Arleene Mapledoram on January 17, 2022 at the age of 83. The oldest daughter of Dutchy and Betty Klomp, Arleene lived her whole life in Thunder Bay. After completing her high school education at St. Patrick, Arleene worked at the Ministry of Transportation before having her two daughters. She returned to the workforce in the mid 70's and was proud of the many years she worked at the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce. She was the Event Manager for a number of chamber shows, specifically the Trade Show. She was a strong believer in sharing her talents, strengths and energy to the community through her volunteer, religious and political associations. Arleene was always smiling, laughing and sharing stories, especially about her escapades with Bob, the love of her life, whom she was married to for 43 years, before his death in 2003. Her family was Arleene's greatest joy and number one priority. She was quick to lend a hand, support or provide guidance. Throughout the years, the Mapledoram home was a regular hangout for a good time. Arleene cared deeply about being a welcoming and kind person and instilled in her “girls” to always be respectful and caring. Arleene was the third generation of St. Agnes parish. Her deep Catholic faith comforted her during this recent brief illness. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Jill (Craig) Symington, Lynn (Andrew) Talmassons, and her beloved granddaughters Elizabeth, Madeline, Courtney and Dana, sister Gayle (Larry) Hansen, sister-in-law Mildred Agombar, brother-in-law Bruce (Kathy) Mapledoram, and many adored nieces and nephews. Arleene is predeceased by her husband, Bob Mapledoram, and her parents Betty and Dutchy Klomp. Funeral Services for the late Arleene Mapledoram will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 with friends and family gathering at St. Agnew R.C. Church for a Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. celebrated by Father James Panikulam. Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to register on Arleene's page at www.sargentandson.com or call the funeral home 345-5351. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral mass at 1:00 p.m. also at St. Agnes. The funeral service will also be live streamed on the St. Agnes facebook page for those who wish to join virtually. If friends so desire, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.

Arleene was a special person whose impact will forever be felt. We will continue to honour her memory by being loving, courageous, generous and welcoming.

My condolences to Arleene´s 2daughters and families, she always spoke of them with love. She shared their stories of jobs, who is going to university and what they are going to be, she was very proud of all her granddaughters, and daughters. We planned to travel but health and COVID got in the way, so we went for lunches and dinners around Thunder Bay. Our only rule was there had to be parking spot at the door or we´d find another place to eat. She called frequently if she was worried about me and I called her when she wasn´t feeling that great. She was a great friend, I will miss her. She now united with Bob the love of her life, blessings and prayers to the families. Sincerely Peggy Michels
