Mr. Arthur Craven, age 84 years, a resident of Roseview Manor passed away in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Saturday, February 4, 2006. Art was born in Port Arthur on November 29, 1921 and was a lifetime resident. He served his country overseas during the Second World War with the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment. While in England he met Doreen Amy Wallace and they were married in Newcastle in 1945. After his return to Port Arthur he joined the MacGillivray Pipe Band as a Drum Major, retiring from the band in 1996. He worked for many years as a Grain Sampler with the Grain Commission. He was a long time member of Port Arthur Branch #5 of the Royal Canadian Legion. His first love was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time with them brought him the greatest joy. Art truly enjoyed his time with the MacGillivray Pipe Band and the many places he travelled with them. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed making home movies. He was able to return to Europe on numerous occasions, the last time in 1996 as a representative of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment during the D-Day Ceremonies. During many Christmas Seasons Art raised others spirits by playing Santa Claus at hospitals, family homes and at Intercity Mall. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his sons Arthur (Sandra) of Winnipeg, Derek, and Brian (Laverne), grandchildren Ryan (Maria) Craven, Pamela (Enzo) Guarino, and Keith and Shelby Craven, three great grandchildren as well as by nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Doreen in 1959. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 8th at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Archdeacon Mark S. Conliffe officiating. The members of Port Arthur Branch #5 of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold their service of tribute in conjunction with the funeral service. Interment will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Alzheimer Society or the Branch #5 Building Fund would be appreciated.
