Aune Viik Obituary

Mrs. Aune Viik, age 88 years, a resident of l7l Carl Avenue, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospital on Thursday, April 29, 2010 with family at her side. She was born in Karstula, Finland on June 29, 1921.Aune came to Canada in 1957 with her husband and their six children. Her main interests were gardening and the outdoors, spending much of her free time fishing year round with her husband.They both enjoyed spending time at their son's camp at Eagle Head Lake.Aune loved children and will be missed by the many children she cared for over the years.She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and was actively involved with the Finnish Evangelical Community. Aune will be sadly missed by her children: Arja, Aulis (Laura) and their children: Arden and Leah, from Ottawa, ON, Aila (George) Van Dongen and their children: Katrina, Sara and Alex from Vancouer, BC, Aimo and his step-children:Colleen and Morgan; daughter-in-law Lynn and her children:Rick, Tim, Dave, Brian and their families; siblings and numerous relatives also survive in Finland and Sweden.She was predeceased by her husband Olavi in 2007; sons:Vaino in 1995 and Arto in 2000. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7th, 2010 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Matthew Diegel of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery.Friends may gather one hour prior to the time of service.As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Aune's memory to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or to the charity of their choice. The family would like to express their thanks to the Doctors and nurses on 2A at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and to the nurses on 4 North at St. Joseph's Hospital, especially Margo, for their compassion and care during this difficult time.On-Line Condolences may be offered atwww.harbourviewfuneral.ca "
