Barbara "Barica" Knezevic

March 16, 1932 - January 16, 2014It is with great sadness that we announce the very sudden and unexpected passing of Barbara (Barica) Knezevic a loving, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, godmother and friend. Barbara passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre at the age of 81 years. Barbara was born on March 16, 1932. She immigrated to Canada from Malik, Croatia in 1960 with her young son, Frank joining her husband Franjo who came to Canada from Croatia in 1957 to establish a home for her and their son. Barbara worked for many years as a seamstress for Tee Kay's. She loved her job and took great pride in her work. Upon retirement Barbara enjoyed gardening and sharing her fresh vegetables, cooking stews, soups and cabbage rolls for her family and friends. Barbara enjoyed getting out and being with people, especially her visits to the casino with her dear good friends Anton and Victor Kolic. Barbara was very caring and compassionate always making time to take her friends shopping, to doctor's appointments and anywhere they needed to go. Barbara leaves behind her grandson Mike (Kim) their children Braydon, Kaitlyn, Avery and Cohen; granddaughter LeeAnna and children Carly and Nolan; god daughter Mary Nucci (Sandy) their children Mario and Elizabeth; nieces Stephanie Sphar and her family of Mississauga, Ontario and Slava Starcevic and her family of Mississauga, Ontario; sisters Anna of Tonkovici, Croatia, Stefica of Herzegovina, Croatia as well as other family members in Croatia. Special and dear friends Anna Retar, Vera Kovacic, Anton Kolic, Victor Kolic, John Kolic and Ciril Retar. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Frank (Franjo) on May 21, 1995 and her only son Frank on April 19, 1993. Special thanks to the compassionate care provided by TBRHSC Emergency Department, ICU and 2C. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Barbara Knezevic will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 leaving the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma at 10:30AM to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Croatian Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 11:00AM celebrated by Fr. Francisco Blazek. Interment to follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening from 5:00PM until 7:00PM in the Everest Chapel with Vigil Prayers being offered at 6:30PM.
