NYMAN
On February 21, 2026, Barbara (Fletcher) Nyman returned to the Spirit World where her Daddy welcomed her with open arms.
Barb was born on February 5, 1958, in Nipigon, ON. The family remained in Nipigon until they moved to Fort William (Thunder Bay) in 1963.
Barb attended a variety of grade schools including St. Edward (Nipigon); St. Stan; St. Ann; St. Martin; and St. Peter. She then attended Northwood High School. While there, she volunteered as a candy striper at McKellar Hospital. It was then that she realized she wanted to help and serve people.
When Barb was 16, she became a mother to Patrick, her one true great love, and who was her life-long companion.
Barb was always a hard worker, and she excelled at waitressing. Her smile, skill, and friendly manner made her a favourite among the "partridges".
Barb also assisted at various hunting and fishing lodges, and her ability to keep a clean camp, and well-fed patrons, were second to none.
Barb enjoyed a variety of music, and everyone knew she was cleaning her home when she blasted Fleetwood Mac's Rumor album. She also enjoyed the Supremes and Cher, and one of her best memories was seeing Cher in concert in 2004.
Barb loved her family fiercely, especially our Daddy. She would cook and bake for him often. She always told her sisters to learn from the choices she made in her life. Barb often talked about her special relationship with Ed, starting from when they were in the same classroom at St. Peter's school, and they had to go to the office because they were exchanging hockey cards in class. She and Ed enjoyed fishing, especially trolling, and having a few "beverages" together.
Barb loved her son, nephews, and nieces dearly. She spent so much time being an amazing and fun aunt. She would often have them at the resort for swimming, fishing, and roasting marshmallows and wieners. Later when her 3 youngest nephews were little, she would make her entire home into a fort, where she would play with them. Pat and all her nephews and nieces enjoyed baking with her. Her homemade soups, buns, and pies were out of this world, and she shared these readily.
Barb loved with her whole heart and opened her door to help all.
Barb is survived by her son Pat, her mother Hazel Fletcher, her siblings, Ed; Debbie (Jason Ewing); Doug (Shannon); Moon (Carrie); and Bobbi. She also has 2 older brothers, John and Paul, with whom she was very close to at one time. Barb is survived by her many nephews and nieces, who will miss her dearly.
Barb was predeceased by her father, John Fletcher Sr. in 2021; her special Uncle Marcel in 1998, and her special cousin Dennis John in 2006.
A funeral service for Barb (Fletcher) Nyman, will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter RC Church, celebrated by Fr. Joseph Arockiam. In lieu of flowers, donations to P.A.C.E. Thunder Bay would be appreciated.
