April 27, 1940 ~ January 6, 2026
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mr. G Barry Roberts of Thunder Bay, ON at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on January 6, 2026, at age 85. Born on April 27, 1940, in Lemberg, Saskatchewan, he moved with his family to Fort William, ON in 1942 where he was raised and educated, graduating from Selkirk high school. He worked for various companies, including Bearing Supply and Detco before co-founding RPM Drives and Design where he worked until his retirement. Barry enjoyed camping and traveling, taking his family on many trips through Western Canada and the Mid-western US. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and was a fan of auto racing, attending events at tracks such as Riverview, Superior, Hibbing, Proctor, and Cedar Lake, as well as trips to Knoxville, Iowa and Eldora Speedway in Ohio. He enjoyed music, singing and playing his guitar at family gatherings. He also had a passion for golf, playing frequently, and soon took an interest in the equipment, acquiring the tools and knowledge to assemble and customize his own clubs. Barry could be found on the Northern Lights Course well before 7:00am most summer mornings. Barry is survived by wife, Sharon; sons, Dale (Kim) and Brian; daughter, Cheryl (Robin); grandson, Cameron; grand-dog, Diva; sister, June Wall; along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, G Harry Roberts; mother, Mary "Pat" Roberts (Aldous); brother, Victor; sister, Lynda; and companion, Judy Fairbarn. The Family would like to thank the nurses on 3B for their kind care of Barry. And a special thank you to neighbour David Joseph who was a wonderful help to Dad these past years.
In the words of Don Williams: "Lord, I hope this Day Is Good. We hope your everyday is good now with birdies on every hole and sunshine every day."
