BARRY SMITH Obituary

Well Loved, Well Respected
We are sad to announce the passing of Barry Gordon Smith. Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to Norman Maurice Smith and Kathleen Amelia Smith (nee Hall) on October 19th, 1943. Barry died April 5th, 2025, in Toronto.

Survived by Anu, his beloved wife of 57 years; sons Peter (Andrea) and Eric (Alexandra); Papa to Eoin, Rhian, Giselle and Victoria; brother to Lois Colpitts; close cousins Doreen Cummine and Norma Gosse; favourite niece Maureen (Teresa); favourite nephew Michael (Connie); great-niece Carling (Tash).

Barry graduated from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1965 as an Architectural Technologist and had a long and fulfilling career. Barry was involved in projects across Canada, and internationally as far as the Middle East and Asia. After retirement, Barry spent many enjoyable years mentoring friends and colleagues.

Barry loved to drive and explore, from a 5-month road trip through western Europe, and multiple trips across Canada including 35+ road trips to Thunder Bay.

Barry was a gentle soul, always had time to quietly listen and provide support without judgement. He also had a talent and vision for design, and managed renovation projects at home and for family and friends. He especially liked designing decks that could withstand hurricane force winds.

Barry's favourite evening was dinner at home with family and friends, lots of wine, and listening to Leonard Cohen until the wee hours.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Barry on Saturday May 3rd from 11:30 to 2:30 pm at the Glenerin Inn & Spa (1695 The Collegeway, Mississauga, Ontario, L5L 3S7). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Barry was a great friend !
First met Barry at R.E.Winter Associates in 1979 and became very good friends for 46 more years.
Many many lunches and debates together, and I occasionly won some of them.
What a wonderful family Anu and Barry have and he was so proud of each of them.
Yoko and I will miss him dearly and he will always be in our hearts and memory.
