Barry Reid White passed away on June 3, 2024 at Hogarth Riverview Manor.
Born in Quebec he moved as a child with his family to Northwestern Ontario settling in Port Arthur.
After graduation from Port Arthur Collegiate Institute he enrolled at The University Of Manitoba graduating in1971 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Barry's career began with Great Lakes Paper, and then Abitibi Thunder Bay Mill until it's closure.
In high school his best friend was Tom Jones so it was only natural that a connection with Autosport would be formed. As an early member of the Thunder Bay Autosport Car Club he excelled as a navigator but also took to the ice in his Anglia in the late 60's to compete on the frozen lakes. This led to an ice racing career that lasted from those early days of club racing to the 1990's and led to success in the International Ice Racing Association.
In the 1980's he met Mary Heino and they began their 30 plus year adventure motor homing in the south from November to April then coming home to spend summers in their cabin at Elizabeth Lake.
Barry was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his partner Mary Heino.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held later this summer.
Arrangements entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St at Algoma.
On Barry's behalf, thank you to Barb and Roger Rickards for their support and assistance over the years, and to the staff of Hogarth Riverview Manor for their care.
