BREITSPRECHER
Mr. Bernd Breitsprecher, age 75 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on October 2, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 15, 1948, in Prenzlau, Germany, he was raised and educated in Anklam, Germany and later immigrated to Canada with his family when he was forty-one.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He met the love of his life, Christa, in 1971. They were married in 1972 and enjoyed fifty-one wonderful years together. In his youth, he was an avid soccer player. He loved spending time outdoors. He particularly loved spending his summers swimming, camping, and fishing; and loved to go cross-country skiing in the winter. In his later years, he treasured precious moments sitting on the campfire with his friends at Finlayson Resort in Atikokan. After retiring in 2010, he and his wife loved to travel and explore various destinations in North America and Europe. He was a loving husband and father, a devoted Opa, a beloved uncle to his niece and nephews, a cousin, brother-in-law, and loyal friend.
Bernd is survived by his wife Christa Breitsprecher, daughter Peggy Pakrashi, son-in-law Jay Pakrashi and grand-daughter Jade who was especially dear to his heart, along with extended family living in Canada and Germany.
Bernd is predeceased by his parents Hans and Irene Breitsprecher and brother Jürgen.
Cremation has taken place. At Bernd's wishes, a private graveside service will follow.
We would like to express a special thank you to Dr. A. Chan and the medical team at the TBRHSC - Regional Cancer Care Unit for the outstanding care and support. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to the
Cancer Society would be appreciated.
