BETSY SUTHERLAND Obituary

BETSY (ELIZABETH) SUTHERLAND (nee Koski) October 22, 1949 ~ October 28, 2025 It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Betsy Sutherland in Hospice at St. Joseph's Hospital with her family by her side.

Betsy was born in Hearst, Ontario on October 22, 1949 to Evelyn and Herman Koski. She started high school in Hearst then later graduated from Geraldton Composite High School. She later decided to venture to the Caramat Fish Derby where she met the love of her life, Allison, and they started their life together.

Betsy had various jobs throughout her life, where she made many lifelong friends along the way, one of the first and most memorably the Caramat School Board Chairman.

She was predeceased by her mother Evelyn, father Herman, step father Joe, and brothers Willie, Barry, Reg and Don.

She is survived by her beloved husband Allison Sutherland, daughter Sandy Fogen, son Allan Sutherland, grandson Braden Fogen, brother Jim Koski (Clara Geno), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betsy's family were her whole world, she always put them first, their well-being, safety and happiness were always top priority.

She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, gardening and spending time with family and friends and she loved to be outdoors.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to St. Joseph's Care Group.

Betsy was one of my longest and closest friends. We met in Caramat in the late sixties and become good friends, lots of good memories being neighbours and raising our kids...curling and dances in Caramat were we had lots of good times. We didn't see much of each other when we both moved to Thunder Bay but kept in touch. The last time was a visit to the hospital in August . We reminisced of our Caramat days and talked of our kids and grandkids..We parted with a hug and told each other that we loved each other...I think I knew then that would be the last time seeing each other. She also came to my 75th surprised birthday party last February and the first thing she said to me ....I want to meet your man. She and Raymond my late husband were also good friends and she was so happy for me that I had met someone...She will always be in my thoughts...Rest in peace my friend..
