Beverley Brucha Obituary

Mrs. Beverley J. Brucha, age 50 years, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital (General) on Thursday, October 19, 2000. Beverley's memory will live on through her husband of 29 years, M. Paul Brucha. Also left to mourn her passing are her mother Evelyn Ruth Humphrey (Montreal), brother Dr. Frank Humphrey (Daria) also of Montreal, mother-in-law Emily Brucha and brother-in-law George Brucha. Beverley will also be remembered by nieces Anna and Abigail Humphrey and nephew Andrew Humphrey as well as numerous cousins. Beverley was predeceased by her father, Eric Humphrey and her father-in-law, George Brucha. Beverley came to Thunder Bayin late 1997 as the Chief Librarian for the Thunder Bay Public Library. Beverley's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Library Science degrees from McGill University, a certificate in Business Management from Dalhousie University and Office Information Systems Management from the Technical University of Nova Scotia. She served as the Assistant Executive Officer of the Halifax County Regional Library in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia prior to assuming her Chief Librarianship in Thunder Bay. Beverley was also Acting Chief Executive Officer of Halifax County Regional Library in the mid 1990's. Beverley's service to the communities that she lived in showed her commitment and dedication to many causes. She served as President of the Cole Harbour Progressive Conservative Ladies Association and as President of the Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society while in Nova Scotia. In Thunder Bay, Beverley was very involved with the community as a Rotarian and a member of the Arts and Heritage Alliance. She also served on the Management Board of the Thunder Bay Children's Festival. Beverley was well known provincially and nationally. She was a member of the Canadian Association of Large Urban Public Libraries (CALUPL), served on the provincial Network 2000 Committee and was a member of the Chief Executives of Large Public Libraries of Ontario (CELPLO). She was also a life-long member of the United Church and was active in St. Paul's United Church in Thunder Bay. Beverley was a woman with varied interest and hobbies. She was a big football fan, fisherwoman and curler. She also enjoyed reading, needlepoint and sewing. Bev enjoyed the challenge of learning about new cultures and languages through her extensive travels. Her compassion and zest for life was evidenced by her interest in breeding and showing St. Bernard dogs. Beverely will be sorely missed by her family, friends and by the Board and Staff of the Thunder Bay Public Library. You are invited to join family, friends and colleagues in a celebration of Beverley's life on Monday, October 23, 2000 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Untied Church, 349 Waverley Street, conducted by Reverend Susan Ivany. Visitation will take place Sunday, October 22, 2000 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Beverley's memory to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation.A donation has been made to Northern Cancer Research Foundation in honour of Mrs. Beverley Brucha by Everest of Thunder Bay."
