BRIAN BREILAND Obituary

BRIAN BREILAND
Brian Breiland, aged 82, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully on February 15th, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Brian was born on August 29th, 1943, in Port Arthur to parents Verna and Haakon Breiland of Port Arthur, Ontario. Following the passing of Verna when Brian was merely 1 year old, Haakon remarried to Louise Breiland, giving Brian stepbrothers; Earl and Stanley Conners.

Brian lived his life fully. He was well educated through Central School, Prospect School, PACI, LCBI Saskatchewan for accounting as well as numerous courses in Manitoba, Calgary, and Edmonton.

Brian was blessed with three daughters in his first marriage to Joanne Halvorson (Vern); Bonnie Breiland, Heather Hambrook (Keith), and Dawn Gulmick (Daren).

Brian worked in the TransCanada pipelines for several years, eventually getting placed in Douala, Cameroon. This is where he would meet and fall in love with Liliane Breiland in 2001. Brian quickly became a loving father to Joseph Breiland, Elianne Button (Nick), Etienne Breiland, Lesly Breiland, and together they would bring life to Hannah Breiland (Jordan). Brian and family resided in Douala until the family were able to move to Thunder Bay, Ontario in 2015. This is where Brian would get reunited with his cousins in the Breiland, Watson, and Engberg families. Brian brought continued support to his family - his children and his wife. He always strove for unity, peace, and having all his children together. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend.

Brian is lovingly remembered by his wife Liliane, children; Bonnie, Heather, Dawn, Joseph, Elianne, Etienne, Lesly, and Hannah. Grandchildren; Kaylie, Jacob, Joey, Journey, Sophia, Calvin, and Luna as a kind, generous, honest, funny, and a stand-up man - he thoroughly enjoyed storytelling and had a great love for music. Brian is predeceased by parents Haakon, Verna, Louise, and brother Stanley.

A celebration of life will be held in the Provincial Room at the Prince Arthur Hotel on February 27th, 2026, at 5pm.

A funeral will be held at Hilldale Lutheran Church on February 28th, 2026, at 1:00pm.

An intimate burial will be held at Sunset Memorial. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the 1A team at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre, St. Joe's Hospice Team, Dr. Delpaggio and team amongst many others for their compassion and support.

Brian will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
