Mr. Brian Oja passed away unexpectedly at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre, at the age of 58 years on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. Brian was born in Geraldton, Ontario on October 24, 1950 and raised and educated in Thunder Bay. He attended Algonquin Public School and Hammarskjold High School. He was employed by St. Joseph's Care Group formerly the Ontario Public Service at the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital. Brian was well liked and respected by all co-workers and was always willing to take on new initiatives. Brian is survived by his mother Laila, sister Darlene Kormano (Pekka) of Atlanta, Georgia (enroute), brothers Gary of Terrace Bay and Ronald. Other relatives in Thunder Bay, Geraldton, Edmonton and Port Alberni, British Columbia also survive. Brian was a very quiet person who made friends throughout his life. He was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed driving and viewing restored cars. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with Pastor Dan Repo of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Interment in Riverside Cemetery. A reception will be held in the Sargent Family Reception Centre following the interment. Visitation for family and friends will be Monday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street.
