DeSENA
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Brigida DeSena announces her passing on July 11, 2024, at Pioneer Ridge Nursing home, peacefully and with family by her side.
Brigida was born on April 19, 1934, in Visciano, Naples, Italy and immigrated to Fort William (now Thunder Bay) in 1957, with her beloved husband, Giacomo. Here they made their forever home and built a life with their two daughters, and eventually five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Brigida is survived by her daughters- Maria (Pino), and Concetta; granddaughters- Bridget (Garry), and Loredana (Michael); grandsons- Stefano (Sara), Andrew (Cassandra), and Brandon (Madeline); great grandchildren- Xander, and Mina. Brigida is also survived by her sister Antonietta, and sister-in-law Carpina (in Italy).
Brigida was known for her love of family, spunky no-nonsense nature, love of gardening, and playing bocce with friends.
Though Brigida battled dementia for 10 years, throughout this time, she still found ways to make us all smile as only "Nonna B" could.
Three years ago, Brigida moved to Pioneer Ridge Long-term care as the disease was progressing. At Pioneer Ridge she formed new friends, where the staff grew to love her. She was known for her singing outbursts, and enthusiastic nature.
Brigida was predeceased by her beloved husband Giacomo; parents-Pasquale and Rubina; brothers- Carmine, Gregorio, Vittorio, and Angelo; sisters- Giuseppina, Maria Angela, and Merita; as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. J. Coccimiglio and the staff at Pioneer Ridge Plaza 1 for the amazing care of our beloved Mom and Nonna. They treated her like family, and we are extremely grateful for the kindness shown.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, when family and friends will gather in St. Dominic's R.C. Church for Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, celebrated by Rev. Michael Mahoney. Interment to follow in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Should friends desire, memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Blake Funeral Chapel, 200 May Street S.
