Bronislaw Warywoda Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of Bruno Warywoda, age 94, announce his passing at TBRHSC in the early morning of July 6, 2008. Dad suffered a massive heart attack, going into a coma for 15 hours before he finally succumbed. But he died quietly, peacefully and with dignity, with all of his family keeping vigil and saying our goodbyes. Born in the town of Volya Velyka in the Ukraine on Sept. 14, l913, he married Mary (Mroczek), his wife of 65 years, in 1943. After service in the Polish army during the second world war, they immigrated to Canada in 1948, finding their way to NWO where Dad began his working life in this country by labouring on the Hydro Dam on Lake Nipigon. Dad eventually gained employment with the CPR as a grain door man, a job where his enormous physical strength was a great asset; never afraid of hard work, Dad later became the foreman of his crew until his retirement. A lifetime member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration and a longtime member of the League of Ukrainian Canadians, Dad had a very deep love for and pride in Ukrainian culture, language and especially dance. He was also an avid outdoorsman, loving his fishing and hunting expeditions with his sons and his friends. As with most immigrants of his generation, life in Canada was not easy at first. But in time, with his hard work and care, Bruno and Mary were able to become owners of a new home, the one Bruno so lovingly built with his own hands on Waterloo Street, a home where they lived so proudly for 43 years. The yard was a place of loving work, filled with an immense garden and beautiful apple trees. In fact, Dad became an expert graftsman, grafting apple trees in the yards of many friends and neighbours and proudly showing off his trees, many of which, through his talent, produced apples of 2 or 3 different varieties Bruno was predeceased by his mother Paulina and father Andrij (in the Ukraine), his brother Julian (in Siberia), and his sister Leonora and brother-in-law Dmytro Koloda (in Thunder Bay) . Left to remember him with our love are his wife Mary; his sons Myron and Walter and daughters-in-law Pat and Marika; grandsons Mark (Guelph), Peter and David and their wives Winnie, Michelle and Trisha; granddaughters Andrea and Larissa; and great grandchildren Jake, Lauryn, Noel, Meagan, Lynden and Tristan. Also surviving are Bruno's sisters Evhenia and Bronislava in the Ukraine and his nephew Joseph Koloda. He loved us all and we loved him. We'll miss you, Dad. Vechnaya Pomyat, Tatu. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Liturgy in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Transfiguration (629 McIntosh Street) at 10:30am celebrated by Rev. Vladimir Chvets. Private family interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Panachyda will be on Tuesday, evening at 7:00 pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire, memorials to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Bronislaw Warywoda in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 29, 2008.
