BRUCE HANSEN Obituary


G. Bruce Hansen, of Thunder Bay, died in hospital, in Toronto, October 30, 2024. His life partner and his daughter were with him.

Bruce was born in Kenora in September 1940, to Harry and Phyllis (Dixon) Hansen. He grew up in Sault Ste. Marie. Bruce graduated from Michigan Tech. University with a degree in Engineering Physics, in 1965. He had completed an apprenticeship in Electronics, at Algoma Steel. Bruce earned a teaching certificate and taught at Bawating Collegiate, Sault Ste. Marie. He was then employed with Abitibi Price in a variety of positions, in Sault Ste. Marie, Grand Falls Nfld. Pine Falls MB, and Thunder Bay, including posts as mill manager in Pine Falls and Thunder Bay, Mission Mill. After leaving Abitibi Price, Bruce developed Nelson Superior Consultants.

Bruce met Sandra Brownlee in Sault Ste. Marie in 1959, and they married in 1963. Bruce and Sandra have four children: Suzanne (Karl), Eric (Lorrie), Peter (Shereen), and Daniel (Krista). Bruce and Sandra, as Poppa and Gran, are also blessed with eight grandchildren: Linnea and Mila, Teagan and Torben, Asher and Ina, and Piers and Felix.

The family shared and enjoyed camping/canoeing, sailing, cross country skiing, and music. Bruce also was a pilot, scuba diver, musician and songwriter.

Bruce's family includes brothers Barry (Carol), Brian (Pam), and sister Audrey (Denis) Battrum, and many dear nieces and nephews.

Bruce was a friend and mentor to many. He was a man of integrity, decency and respectfulness.

Bruce is held in our hearts with Love and Gratitude. We celebrate a rich, well lived life.

A Celebration gathering is being planned for Spring 2025.
