BRUCE HENDERSON Obituary

BRUCE HENDERSON
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of James Bruce Henderson at the age of 70 on April 21, 2025. Throughout his ongoing battle with heart disease, Bruce faced each challenge with strength, courage, and perseverance.

Bruce was born August 21, 1954, in Fort William to parents Peter and Muriel Henderson. He started working alongside his family at Henderson Taxi. While trying his hand in different property management businesses, he found his calling and finished his working years at Dawson Properties. He showed his hard work and dedication throughout his 32 years of service. He managed the business as if it were his own. The best part of his career was building those working relationships that turned into friendships. He was often seen with those friends for lunch at Mario's Bowl.

Beloved husband to Dana-Rae, loving father of Tanner (Chelsea) and Marla (David), and grandfather to Cody, Alana, and Lottie. Bruce was predeceased by his parents and his brother Rick. He is survived by his brother Brian.

In 1976, Bruce married his soulmate, Dana-Rae, the love of his life. Their bond was one of deep affection, unwavering support, and a true partnership. Through every chapter of life, they stood side by side whether facing challenges or celebrating joys with a love that only grew stronger over time. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, shared dreams, and countless cherished memories.

In the summer, Bruce loved spending time with family and friends at Amethyst Harbour, a place that had held his heart since he was four years old. He and Dana-Rae eventually purchased the family camp in 1984, where they raised their two children and later watched their grandchildren grow by the lake. A true handyman, Bruce always had a project on the go to make his favorite place even better for his family. No matter how busy he was with his own work, he was always quick to lend a hand to others around the lake. He enjoyed his rum and Cokes in "Bacardi Bay" with camp friends and loved spending time out on the big lake aboard the TanMar and the Sea Ray.

He cherished a lifelong friendship of over 55 years with Scott and Joni, Andrew and Marla, and Terry and Shirley all friends who became family. Together, they created a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, adventure, and countless good times.

Bruce was the number one fan of his children throughout their activities, sports, and career achievements. Later, that support extended to his grandchildren. Being a skiing family, he even embraced hockey.

Bruce carried the persona of a hard shell, but under it all, he was loyal, respectful, and had his own set of values that he stuck to. Dad was never wrong because he was always right. He was a rock for his family. He was the kind of man whose presence made you feel like things would be okay. He was steady, strong, and one of those people who didn't need to say much to make a lasting impression. He has passed on his values and hard work ethic to Tanner & Marla, where he shines through their successes every day.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to his health team Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Nigro over the last few years, and to the extensive palliative care support at home from nurse Tracy Hill.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, from 2 PM, with words of remembrance at 2:30 PM at the Superior Inn. Should family and friends so desire, donations can be made in Bruce's honour to TBRHSF, Northern Cardiac Fund. Arrangements entrusted to the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street.

My sympathy to the Henderson family, I worked with Bruce out of the Winnipeg office for many years and we spoke on the phone several times. He was a wonderful man and even though we talked business we always found a minute to laugh about something. Bruce will be missed greatly.
