Bruce Seed Obituary

Bruce Edward Seed passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's hospital on Saturday, March 5, 2016 with his daughter Barbara by his side. Bruce was born in Fort William in 1925, and grew up on Norah Street. He graduated from Fort William Vocational Institute in 1943. Bruce quickly enrolled and trained in the air force and was transferred to the army. He guarded prisoners Lethbridge, Alberta, and was spared some of the horrors of war before the soldiers returned home in 1945. Bruce then worked with his father's business at Inland Coal Co. Ltd. before joining Valley Camp Company Ltd. as General Foreman, where he remained until he retired. Bruce was a devoted, long time member and elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, in Fort William. He and his best friend and wife Lillian developed robust relationships through the church and enjoyed many of the fellowship activities. As a lifetime jazz devotee, Bruce played saxophone in local bands and felt fortunate to have grown up in the big band era. An early member of the Thunder Bay Yacht Club, Bruce was a boat builder, Honorary Commodore and life member. Bruce and Lillian enjoyed many winters in Florida before becoming one of the first residents of McKellar Place retirement home. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Aileen Seed; his wife, Lillian Gertrude Seed (Ismond); his son, Bruce Albert and his sister, Audrey Henderson (Seed). He is missed and lovingly remembered by his son, Colin Seed of South Slocan, BC; his daughter Barbara Seed (Adam) of White Rock, BC; grandson Tyler Seed (Ga'eun) of Toronto; granddaughter Amanda Seed (Brent) of Sudbury and daughter-in-law, Julie Lynn Humphrey (John) of Peterborough. Bruce was a gentleman and a Boy Scout right to the end. He was a wonderful role model for his family. As the survivor of a brain tumor in 1979, he showed us all how to face adversity with dignity. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Brodie St. A luncheon will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruce's memory to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

GAIL SEAGRIS

IT HAS BEEN AN HONOUR TO HAVE PROVIDED FOOT CARE FOR BRUCE AND LILLIAN. BRUE AND I HAD MANY CONVERSATIONS TOGETHER, AND HE WAS, IN FACT, ONE OF THE SMARTEST GENTLEMAN I HAVE EVER MET. LILLIAN WAS ALSO A SUPER SMART WOMAN, WHO ALLOWED ME TO PROVIDE SOME 'EXTRA' CARE HER IN HER DECLINING WEEKS. BOTH OF THESE COURAGEOUS PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS BE 'ROLE MODELS' FOR ME. I HOPE TO USE THEIR UNBELIEVABLE STRENGTH, ENDURANCE, INTELLIGENCE AND GRACE TO GUIDE MY JOURNEY IN LIFE....I WILL MISS YOU BRUCE! GOD BLESS YOU BOTH! THE STORY OF HOW YOUR WIFE 'PICKED' YOU, OR AS YOU PUT IT...'I WAS JUST THE TALLER ONE!'...I SEE FROM YOUR WEDDING PICTURE, IT WAS MORE THAN THAT. BUT YOUR STORY ABOUT IT WAS GREAT! ALL YOUR STORIES WERE GREAT! GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY. I AM SORRY I MISSED THEM. I DID NOT KNOW OF YOUR PASSING UNTIL TODAY...MARCH 14
SINCERELY, GAIL SEAGRIS.
