MARKO BUTORAC Obituary

BUTORAC, MARKO It is with great sadness that the family announce the unexpected passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Marko Butorac.

Marko was born in 1950 in Donje Pazariste, Croatia to Ivan and Kata Butorac. Before coming to Canada in 1968, Marko went to trade school in Zagreb.

On coming to Canada, Marko worked in bush camps and the Shebandowan Mine before going to work for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool as a millwright for 34 years.

In his younger years, Marko was the Voice of Yugoslavia on radio, volunteered as an interpreter/driver for ski jumpers and ran many races including 5 marathons until a knee injury forced him to stop.

In 1986, Marko married Virginia (nee Nigro) and together they had six beautiful children - Peter (Karen), Paul (Marriah), Thomas, Mary, Kaya and Sara along with five wonderful grandchildren - Chase, Cole, Clay, Ivan and Marie.

Marko loved his family and his family camp on Lake DeCourcey and spent many happy days there.

Besides his spouse, children and grandchildren Marko leaves behind his sisters Anka and Ljuba (Phil-nephew Jack) as well as numerous cousins both in Canada and Croatia. He also leaves to mourn him good friends Bill Kerelchuk, Ed Lavoie, Joe Koren and his faithful companion, Rocky.

Marko was predeceased by his parents Ivan and Kata, sister Milka (Millie), brother Nikola and niece Joan.

Marko was a great friend to many and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, please donate to the Dew Drop Inn or Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Foundation - Northern Cardiac Fund.

The family would like to thank Drs. Stewart Kennedy and Frank Nigro for their wonderful care of Marko over the years.

We would also like to thank paramedics Dina and Abby; OPP officers Ben, Rebecca and Ryan; and Simple Times staff Vivian and Kyle for their compassion and kindness and help in bringing Marko home.

Marko was always ready to help others so in his memory, if you have a chance, please pay it forward.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor Sunday, July 20th, 1- 4 pm at the Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel-Provincial Room.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Marko as duly noted was a friend to many and always willing to offer some wisdom or a helpful hand.
I knew Marko through running and as a co- worker at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and as USW Grainhandlers Unit Lodge 650 member as well as serving many years on the union executive and as safety chairperson at Pool 4.
Marko was always a person you could rely upon and was a confidant often relied on for insight and guidance.
I spent many hours at the college kibitzing with Marko as he worked out late evening so I would get caught up in the latest events and gossip or just share elevator stories of which there were many.
Marko was a very dedicated family man and cared about his family first and foremost.
There are a lot of good people in the world and Marko was in my view in the top percentile.
I am very saddened to hear of his passing and pass along my condolences to the family.
On behalf of the Grainhandlers Unit Lodge 650 and the Executive and members we mourn the loss of our brethren.
Sincerely Herbert Daniher
