Carl Westerback Obituary

Carl Helmer Westerback, 88 passed away peacefully at Roseview Manor October 10, 2022. Carl was born December 17,1933 in Port Arthur to Karl Gunnar Westerback and Ines (Hedman) (Westerback) Ingves, spending his early years at Tee Harbour and Camp Bay before moving to town for education in local schools. He was always happy to share stories about his experiences in Tee Harbour and Camp Bay.

On August 5, 1955 he married Ann-Mari Sjodin. Together they had four children Ken, Wendy, Terry and Debra and he was Papa to grandchildren Eric, Alistair, and Stephanie.

Carl worked as an accountant in local businesses until 1967 when he began working for the Ontario Public Service with the Ministry of Revenue (Retail Sales Tax) in Thunder Bay, Sudbury, and Toronto. In 1983 he became the District Manager for Thunder Bay of the Ministry of Government Services.

Carl retired in 1994 and enjoyed many happy years at his lakeside home in Bell Harbour, spending time with family and friends, fishing or in his woodworking shop. He made special intarsia sculptures for family and the Viking figurehead and ship which hung in the Scandinavian home. He and Ann-Mari enjoyed travels to visit their children, cousins in Sweden and Finland, friends in other locales, an Alaskan cruise and time in B.C.

He was a lifelong active member of the Lutheran Church and a life member of both the Certified Professional Accountants and the Certified Management Accountants of Ontario.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother, stepfather Gunnar Ingves, and uncle Roy Hedman. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years Ann-Mari, his children Ken, Wendy (John), Terry, Debra (Paul), his grandchildren Eric, Alistair, Stephanie, and stepbrother Victor Ingves as well as extended family members and close friends.

The family wish to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Roseview Manor who cared for and supported Carl, listened to his stories, and filled his coffee cup.

There will be a private interment service and a private celebration of life in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Hilldale Lutheran Church would be appreciated.

My sincere condolences to all of Carl's family. I remember camping with the family at Rainbow Falls and really enjoyed your parents as fellow residents at Bayview Towers. Hannah
