Carmine Sirignano Obituary

Mr. Carmine Sirignano age 74, resident of Westminster Street, Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 10, 2004 with family by his side. Carmine was born on July 24, 1929 in Roccarainola, Naples, Italy and at the age of 18 served his patriotic duty in the Italian military. He arrived in Canada shortly after his future wife, Iolanda. They married on June 30, 1956 and settled in Fort William. He secured employment as a grain handler with Patterson and Sons and maintained a second job at Robin Hood Flour to provide for his new family. After the closure of Patterson and Sons he transferred to Richardson and Sons in April 1969 and worked until his retirement in 1987. At this time he continued to devote much of his time to the care of his wife until her death in January 2000. Next to his children and grandchildren, he took much pleasure in tending to his garden from which many friends and family enjoyed the abundance of. He will pass on his knowledge of canning tomatoes and wine making to his children and will also be remembered by his quick wit and subtle humorous comments. Despite his illness he was never selfish with his time nor hesitant to help others. Carmine is survived and will be sadly missed by his children Angelo and special friend Karen, Anna and husband Kent Law, Tony and wife Suzanne; grandchildren Justin, Sarah, Alysia, Brandon, Angela and great-granddaughter Alexis; his sister Carolina (Italy) and brother Pasquale (Italy). He is predeceased by his wife, Iolanda of 43 years; parents Angelo and Anna (Italy); sister Guiseppina (Italy); brothers Donato and Giovanni (Italy) and Gennaro (Thunder Bay). Funeral services for Carmine Sirignano will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 leaving the Blake Funeral Chapel at 10:30am for Funeral Mass at 11:00am in St. Dominic's Church celebrated by Rev. Daniel Lapolla c.s. Entombment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held in the Blake Funeral Chapel on Tuesday evening at 6:00pm with Vigil Services being offered at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, St. Joseph's Foundation or charity of your choice would be appreciated.A tree will be planted in memory of Carmine Sirignano in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 26, 2005."
