With very heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Cathy Allam (nee Kauppi), age 72, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the TBRHSC. Cathy was born in Port Arthur on August 20, 1953 and lived all her life on Hazelwood Drive in Thunder Bay.
Cathy will be fondly remembered by her sons Raymond (Stephanie) and Tim and daughter-in-law, Caitlin along with her 3 loving granddaughters, Hayden, Harper and Morgan. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years Zane in 2022. Cathy is survived by her siblings Marlene, Ed (Anne) and Sylvia the latter of which Cathy spoke to or visited with daily as each other's closest friend. She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews and their families.
Cathy was extremely proud of her family and consistently kept friends and extended family up to date with news of all of her granddaughters' achievements. She was a very dedicated friend, sister and aunt and enjoyed socializing with many good friends, neighbours and extended family members.
After returning to work once her children were in full time school, Cathy thoroughly enjoyed working for the City of Thunder Bay in Economic Development for more than 20 years. She took satisfaction in helping local businesses navigate their roads to success. She continued to keep the relationships she nurtured at Development Thunder Bay with her co-workers as friendships over the last decade plus of retirement. More recently, Cathy looked forward to a new circle of friends at the CN Pensioners' Lunches.
Cathy was a thoughtful, compassionate and loving person. She spent years supporting her son's decades of athletics as the number one fan, the chauffeur and with the pregame advice "to play hard, play safe and nobody get hurt." She had the amazing opportunity to grow up with her parents and 5 siblings and then built a wonderful home as a newlywed next door. After losing Zane suddenly in 2022 Cathy showed daily strength and determination to keep that home and yard in immaculate condition ready to host any friend for an afternoon coffee or family member for an extended stay.
Cathy is also survived by a large extended family. Cathy was predeceased by her parents, Reino and Martha Kauppi, in-laws Mary and Nick Allam, brothers Louie Kauppi, Kenny Kauppi, brothers-in-law and Marvin Valliere, Gerry Gillson and nephews, Kevin Valliere and Jeff Gillson.
As per Cathy's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday October 11th from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Valhalla Hotel and Conference Centre with words of tribute at 3:00. If friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Online condolences may be expressed at

You will be loved and remembered forever and ever. Love you lots and lots.
