CÉCILE MARIE BERNADETTE BLONDEAU (née Gagnon) LÉTOURNEAU
January 17, 1936 Mattice, Ontario December 14, 2025 Geraldton, Ontario
Cécile passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the age of 89, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born and raised in the small northern Ontario village of Mattice, Cécile came from a large French-Canadian family of 19 children. She grew up on the family farm where she learned the values of hard work, kindness, and caring for others that defined her life. After meeting her first husband Roland Létourneau, she moved to Geraldton, Ontario where she lovingly raised her five children.
In August of 1980 Cécile moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario with her second husband Marcel Blondeau. There, she ran a day home for many years, opening her door and heart to many children and families.
Cécile was a sweet and kind soul with a warm, welcoming nature. She was social, outgoing, and deeply enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Her door was always open, and she was often the one to make us laugh with her quick wit and unexpected jokes. She was an avid card player and volunteered often, enjoying giving back to her community. She loved watching hockey, especially cheering for her favourite team, the Calgary Flames, and proudly supported all her children in their hockey pursuits, spending countless hours at the Geraldton arena. Cécile enjoyed country music, with a particular fondness for Kenny Rogers. While she never cared much for cooking, she certainly enjoyed eating. More of a listener than a talker, Cécile was gentle, selfless, caring, and never one to complain. Elle avait un cœur généreux et une joie de vivre qui restera à jamais dans nos mémoires.
Cécile is lovingly remembered by her children: Diane Hildebrandt (Gerry) of Calgary, Alberta; Roch Létourneau (Holly) of Thunder Bay; Daniel Létourneau of Brockville; and Joel Létourneau (Jocelyne) of Geraldton, Ontario. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Ryan, Kirk, Jenna, Charlotte, Molly, Chelsey, Erik, Brandon, Ethan, Owen, Brent, and Erin. She is lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren: Adam, Hunter, Hazel, Bennett, Bella, Harlow, Brooklyn, Bree, Wynter, and Amira.
Cécile was predeceased by her beloved son Gilles Létourneau; her husband Marcel Blondeau; her first husband Roland Létourneau; her parents Albertine (née Lagrange) and Bernard Gagnon; and 13 of her siblings. She is survived by five siblings.
Cécile will be interred at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour her memory are invited to make a donation to Parkinson Canada in support of Parkinson's research.
Her children are planning a Celebration of Life in the warmer months, with details to follow.
Rest in peace, Mom. You will be dearly missed. xoxo
