Cecile St. Onge Obituary

God has you in His keeping, we have you in our hearts. " It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Cecile St. Onge at St. Joseph's Hospital-Hospice Unit on Thursday, July 24, 2008. After a courageous battle with cancer, she is now at rest in the arms of God. Born on May 26, 1925 in Kedgwick, New Brunswick, one of thirteen children, Cecile began working at a young age to help support her siblings. She worked as a domestic in private homes and in a large hospital in New Brunswick. After marriage, she cooked in bush camps and worked in a munitions factory in Montreal. She moved to Geraldton Ontario in 1952, coming by train with three young children to join her husband. No small feat, considering she did not speak a word of English. She eventually moved to Beardmore where she finished raising her family, made life-long friends and had many good times. Her husband's job then took them to Thunder Bay in 1987. Mom was a wonderful cook and was well known for her homemade bread and her French cuisine. She could not be outdone when it came to her tortierre and creton and got great pleasure knowing that no one left her table hungry. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, was an avid gardener, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed taking long walks until her health deteriorated. She loved attending St. Anthony's and found great peace in the Church. Hard work, determination and faith were only a few of the many characteristics that made Cecile the special person that she was. Above all, she cherished her family, and was happiest when surrounded by them.
