Cecilia Pero Obituary

Cecilia Pero passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Wednesday, August 17, 2011. She was born August 27, 1931, daughter of Anna and Andrew Potosky. She grew up in Fort William, attended St. Peter's School and St. Patrick's High School and played with the Rockette's Softball Team. Cis had a rewarding career working at the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital and at the school with children with developmental challenges. She was a talented organist and singer for 30 years at St. Peter's Church and an active member of the CWL. She was predeceased by her first husband Thomas B. Gollat. Cis is survived by her husband and best friend Ron, they had many enjoyable trips through Canada and the USA, and when Ron retired they would spend the winter months in Florida and Texas. She especially enjoyed camping and when fishing she would proudly flaunt her large catch of the day. Cis's greatest pleasure was spending time with her family, especially seasonal holidays and she never missed Birthdays, carefully choosing special cards for everyone. She is survived by her children Anne Marie Picek (John), Catherine Boriadaile (Graham), Patricia Lewis (Larry), Thomas G. Gollat (Kathy) and step-children Sherry D. Filograna (George), Todd Pero, Ron D. Pero (Marlo). Her grandchildren and great grand-children were her greatest joy Christopher Picek, Jason Picek (Diana), Jon-Paul (Jennifer) great-grandchildren Braeden, Kaleb and Kerina Picek, Michelle Drmanic (Danny) great-grandchildren Sofia and Sylvia Drmanic, Larissa Luoma (Corey), Robert Lewis (Jinny) great-grand-daughter Emma, Sarah Lewis great-grandchildren Abby and Aiden, Meghan Spooner (Joshua), Andrew Gollat and Alixzandra Grant-Pero. She is survived by brothers and sisters Ann Tuhkanen ( Toivo predeceased), Steve Potosky (Olga), Anthony Potosky (Alice), Agnes Andrea (Elias), and Elizabeth Labelle (Jim) in BC, sister in-law Shirley Reid (Bob), Brother in-law John Pero (Eilleen) and sister in-law Judy Mazurski (Mark) in BC. Also, she will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Cis had a passion for cooking and loved sharing recipes. She was a gifted quilter, blessing us with beautiful intricate keepsake quilts. She thoroughly enjoyed music and attending the Auditorium. Cis was an extraordinary caring lady that had a significant impact on her family and friends. She always put the needs of others first and was willing to help. She will be sadly missed. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church celebrated by Rev. Antoni Fujarczuk. Private family interment will follow at a later time in Mountain View Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Cecilia Pero in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 10, 2012.
