CHASE SMITH
Olive Evelyn Chase Smith, known to all simply as Chase, left this world suddenly on the morning of August 12th, 2025, peacefully in her sleep. The world lost a bright and colourful light of innocence, creativity, and hope that morning. She would have started her final year at St. Ignatius High School this September.
Born on February 5th, 2008, Chase was a ray of positivity and her laugh could brighten up any rainy day. She would often be seen with a smile and was welcoming to everyone around her. She loved all of her family and she especially loved being a big sister. She always disliked it when someone was treated differently simply because they were different. Chase always believed that people should be themselves, even if that meant bucking societal norms. It was that very ideal that made her a strong advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. Our lives were all the brighter and more colourful because of her presence. As someone recently said: "The time we had with her wasn't long, but boy was it beautiful!"
Chase is survived by her father David Smith, mother Melissa Smith, step-mother Jocelyn Baker, step-father Aaron Antaya, and brother Quentin Smith.
She was predeceased by Michael Hengstmengel, Nana O, and her pets Tequila, Shooter, Saki, Yuki, Willow, Odin, and Koishi.
The family would like to thank St. Paul's United Church, Dr. Justin Jagger, Chase's wonderful friends, and all the family that showed her love in her life.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, September 6th at 1:00 p.m. in the R. Leino Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre. Guests are encouraged to wear bright colours as she loved colour.
The service will be livestreamed at
www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.
