It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christian Adam Michels on December 31st, 2021. Chris was 57 years old and had a life full of love, family, friends, and opportunities.
Born on June 1, 1964, in Port Arthur, Chris was named after his paternal grandfather, Christian Adam Michels, a respected manager of the former Great Lakes Paper in Fort William. Chris is predeceased by his father Robert (Bob) Michels and survived by his loving mother Peggy, children Isabelle and Adam and their mother Eileen, siblings Robert (Shannon) Michels and Katie (Malcolm) Clarke, nieces and nephews, Ryan, Rachel, Caelan, Gillian, and Daniel, his Aunt Ann Bailey, and many cousins. Chris also leaves behind his treasured soul mate and partner Marilyn Findlay and her family Allison (Paul Pender), Katie (Mike Grant) and baby Eli.
Chris spent his early years in Fort William before moving to Quetico Centre with his family, where he cultivated a love of the outdoors on the shores of Eva Lake and a love of sports while attending school in Atikokan. Being a storyteller like his father, Chris enjoyed sharing tales of his time as a camp counsellor on Quetico Adventure, his years at Queen's University, amazing golf trips, boating excursions, and fishing adventures. Fundamental to all those stories were the people he was with, the lessons that were learned, and the fun that was had.
Chris was immensely proud of his children, who take after him in many ways. They have his easy-going nature, willingness to help, and an ability to get along with anyone. Chris' unfailing commitment to his children was exemplified in the supportive co-parenting relationship he shared with their mother, Eileen. Chris also fulfilled the role of ‘big brother' in all the best ways, assuming the responsibility with ease. He welcomed his mother into his home after his father passed away and provided a home base for his siblings and their families (and dogs!) when visiting Thunder Bay. Hosting was one of Chris' favourite things and he shared that love with his partner, Marilyn. Their life together was only just beginning but in that time our families came together and shared in the love they had for one another.
Chris established a decades-long career in sales from ice cream, televisions, and office products to commercial/industrial supplies. He was a respected leader in his field who was able to develop long-lasting relationships because he knew his products like no other and worked tirelessly to help and to find solutions. Chris was a mentor and loyal friend to many and an incredibly kind, loving, and gentle provider for his family. We feel a huge loss but are thankful that we were blessed to have had the honour of him in our lives. It gives us great comfort that the best of Chris will continue to live on in his children.
A funeral service for Chris is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22nd at Christ Lutheran Church in Thunder Bay, officiated by Pastor Brian Falkenholt. Due to COVID restrictions, attendance at the service will be limited, with a live stream available. We look forward to hosting a celebration of Chris' life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the TBRHSC Our Hearts at Home Campaign.

My name is Rick Barter. I worked for Elf Atochem and Anderol while calling on mining companies and forestry companies in the bush as well as several lumber yards in Thunder Bay. This note might seem very late in coming as I just only heard of Chris's passing today, August 30,2023.
My heart is very heavy with this news. Chris and I developed a close relationship since the mid 1990's. We literally traveled many thousands of kms together selling lubricants to the various industries in Northwestern Ontario. I knew Eileen quite well during that time but did not get a chance to meet his new partner Marilyn. I met his kids from birth but have no idea how old they are now. Everything I read in the obituary about Chris is absolutely true. He was a kind, gentle man while at the same time being a consummate professional in business. I will miss Chris terribly. If someone could, (perhaps Wayne Manula who I also have known for several years), could let me know how Chris passed, I would appreciate it.
All my best to his friends and family and rest in piece my dear friend Chris.

Thinking of you and very sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of spending time with Chris at Queen's University in the PHE program and he was a very caring, kind, polite, and supportive friend and important member our group. He was also ready to listen carefully and join with a positive manner. I will remember him fondly and with great respect as I know many others will as well. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. With sincerest condolences.

It seems so surreal to be sending condolences to Peggy, Katie, Robert, and to all of Chris´s extended family. Such a sudden and unexpected loss was an immense shock to me, and I am sure, to all who knew Chris , as a family member, a friend, or acquaintance.
I will remember him as a warm, kind, gentle, unassuming, and fun- loving, young man and adult.
Rest In Peace Chris. I will cherish your memory.

Dear Peggy, Robert & Shannon, Katie & Malcolm, Isabelle, Adam, Eileen, Ryan & Rachel, Caelan, Gillian & Daniel, and all the other family and friends of Chris,
We were so shocked and saddened to learn of Chris's sudden passing. Such a tragic loss to you all. Chris was a wonderful person, like his father, and we have many fond memories of times spent with him during our visits to Thunder Bay. He had an infectious smile and wit and was always a welcome host to all who visited, including the friends we've brought along with us on our trips. He will be sorely missed by all. Praying for your comfort and peace as you move forward without your precious son, partner, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Sending you all our love at this difficult time and always.

We were so sorry to hear that Chris had passed away. Roy and I enjoyed talking to Chris at the many work Christmas parties and golf tournaments over the years. He was always such fun. I worked with Chris since he started with CCI. I remember the many managers meetings, in Thunder Bay and away, the inventories and the company trips. He loved when I brought in homemade chocolate covered cherries and baking for Christmas. The last year before Covid, I brought him his own box of cherries for him and his family. Not sure if any made it home. We will both miss Chris. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the family and his companion Marilyn. I hope it helps that others share your loss. Bea
