Colleen Spiess Obituary

(nee Cummings)

April 28, 1954 –
December 15, 2016

With sadness for my family and friends I leave behind, I am announcing my passing. I was born in Nipigon, Ontario and attended local schools. I was employed at various jobs in Nipigon with my last one being the MNR. I then left Nipigon to find a job in Thunder Bay (the big city!). I worked for various law offices and finished with Legal Aid Ontario after being employed there for 18 years. During those years, I met many wonderful clients and co-workers and thoroughly enjoyed my work. My caring and compassion hopefully made a difference in some people's lives. In 1987, while playing darts, I met my husband, Scott. He was such a kind, honest and funny guy and most importantly to me, he was a gentleman. We were married July 15, 1989 and are still sharing our laughter and our love to this day. We have swam in the ocean, enjoyed the excitement of fishing and the peace and serenity of just sitting in the boat when the fish weren't biting. We stared in awe at the stars on crystal clear nights while camping in Harvey the RV. We plantedand and tended our yard and garden which gave us both a great deal of joy. Surviving me are my loving, caregiver husband, Scott, and my wonderful, caring sister with whom I have shared some tears and lots of laughter, Carol Wieckowski, our brother-in-law Walter, our niece, Nuala, children, Jeremy & Madison and our nephew, Walter Jr. Also surviving me is my gracious mother-in-law, June Spiess, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dawn and Keith Taplay, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chris & Karen Spiess, niece, Kelsey and nephew Ryan. In addition, my life-long friend of 48 years, my soul sister, Deb Blanchette, her daughter Paige Huntus and granddaughter, Layla, her daughter and son-in-law, Amber & Alan Ouellet and granddaughter, Adalie, also survive me. They have all been so kind and caring, crazy and goofy and I thank them for making me laugh and sharing all of that with me throughout the years. I was predeceased by my mother and father, Stella & Nick Cummings, my father-in-law, Edward Spiess, both sets of grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and our many fur babies, Chloe, Cassey & Tasha. Per my wishes, I will be cremated and there will not be a funeral service. So, to all of you who knew me:

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and a cigarette in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”.

Please remember to show your family and friends that you love them daily, be kind to each other, offer hope and help to those who are less fortunate than you. Be remembered, not for all the big things you did, but for all the little kindnesses you extended every day. Unfortunately, “Grief is the price we pay for love”. Love, Hugs & Kisses to you all.
