It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Cosimo Pellegrino, age 89 years, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, surrounded by his family. Cosimo was born on September 25, 1936, in Siderno Reggio Calabria. At the age of 19, he ventured off to Canada to establish work opportunities, and later returned to Siderno where he met the love of his life, Maria Crupi. Soon after, they married and immigrated to Canada where they welcomed three beautiful children. Cosimo came to Canada with a dream in his heart and a pair of scissors in his hand, determined to build a new life through the craft he loved most-barbering. Leaving behind his homeland, he embraced his new country with courage and passion, quickly becoming a beloved fixture in his community. Cosimo was given numerous opportunities by many local barbers until he later established Cosimo's Barber Shop on Simpson Street and later relocated to The Chaples Building. His dedication, warm smile, and genuine care for others turned customers into lifelong friends until his retirement in 2014 when he handed over his pair of scissors and his business to his grandson Cosimo Salerno where the legacy continues. After retiring, Cosimo wasn't ready to slow down completely. He found joy and purpose working alongside his sons at NYS restaurant where his strong work ethic continued to shine. It was a new chapter in his life where he proudly worked alongside his wife, children, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Cosimo also enjoyed gardening and frequent trips to his beloved home in Italy. Cosimo is forever remembered by his loving wife of 64 years Maria, children Carmelina (Antonio) Salerno, Frank (Joanna) Pellegrino and Joe Pellegrino; grandchildren Domenic (Rina) Salerno, Cosimo (Giulia) Salerno, Angela (Andrea) Zenone, Daniel and Martina Pellegrino; great grandchildren Nico, Eva, Santiago Salerno, Bianca and Carmelina Salerno, Sofia, Selia and Sante Zenone. Siblings Carmelina (Fernando) Catalano, Teresa Pellegrino, brothers-in-law Antonio D'Agostino, Tony Crupi, and sisters-in-law Franca Crupi, Nina Ierino, Diane Crupi, Rosetta Figliomeni and Tita Scaffeo. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in Toronto and Italy. Cosimo was predeceased by his parents Francesco and Maria, in-laws Cosimo and Carmela Crupi, brothers Giuseppe Pellegrino, Carlo Pellegrino, Girolamo Pellegrino and Vincenzo Pellegrino and sisters Emilia D'Agostino and Rosetta Polito, brothers-in-law Domenico Polito, Antonio Scaffeo, Antonio Ierino, Michele Crupi, Domenico Crupi, Cosimo Figliomeni, and and sisters-in-laws Emilia (Figliomeni) Pellegrino, Maria D'Agostino and Lena Crupi. A special thank you to all the doctors and nursing staff that helped make his last days peaceful.
