Cosmo Coda Obituary

Mr. Cosmo Coda, age 65 years, resident of Thunder Bay, died tragically on November 18, 2004, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Brognaturo, Italy he moved to Australia where he and his family resided for 14 years prior to immigrating to Canada. As a resident of Thunder Bay for the past 35 years, he worked as a carpenter for D'Angelo Brothers and Port Arthur Shipyards. Cosmo was a man of many skills, turning his talented hands to carpentry, small motor repair and numerous odd jobs. He was a member of the Italian Cultural Centre of Port Arthur for the past 31 years, and spent many pleasurable hours playing cards and bocce with his friends. Cosmo lived life to the fullest, as he loved traveling, gardening, hunting and fishing. A physically active man, he was a regular swimmer at the Canada Games Complex and was often seen on daily walks with his wife. The most important thing in life to Cosmo was his family and his life was a gift to those he loved. He was always the first person to offer his help and his love, placing his family before himself. An extremely generous man, his family enjoyed the wealth of his love, the warmth of his smile and the strength of his embrace. He is lovingly remembered and deeply mourned by Caterina, his wife of 41 years. Cosmo and Caterina were inseparable and he was the love of her life. He leaves behind the love of his children Bruno Coda, Rosina Coda Ruch (Darren), and his grandchildren Jon William and Kathryn Isabella Ruch. He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers Frank Coda (Concetta) of Thunder Bay, Giuseppe Coda (Immacolata) of Italy; sisters Teresa Bertucci of Australia, Stella Pilat (Nicola) of Thunder Bay, Concetta Gori (Frank) of Switzerland; sisters-in-law Maria Rosa Rosi and Stella Rosi (Gabriele) of Italy; brothers-in-law Luigi Valente of Thunder Bay, Bruno Mangiardi of Italy; parents-in-law Raffaela and Bruno Rosi of Italy, and numerous relatives in Canada, Europe, Australia and the United States. He was predeceased by his parents Rosina and Bruno Coda of Italy; sisters Angelina Valente, Giuseppina Coda and brother-in-law Salvatore Valente.Visitation for family and friends will be at Corpus Christi Church, 664 Red River Road, on Monday, November 22, 2004 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm with Vigil Prayers beginning at 7:00 pm.
