DALE ROBERTSON Obituary

March 2, 1966 ~ August 5, 2025
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Dale Albert Robertson.

Dale, dad, who was our rock and home. Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Dale wore many hats throughout the rich 59 years of his life. Husband, father, son, brother, friend, police officer, and the one he was most proud of - Grandpa.

He was thrilled to retire at 50 after serving 30 years as Constable, Sergeant, and then Detective with Thunder Bay Police Service. He devoted his time to family and friends - offering help to anyone in need. He was a talented carpenter and handyman, well-remembered as working hard, with a smile on his face. He was genuine, kind, loyal, and fierce. People wanted to be around him.

He could most often be found swimming at camp with Brody, riding around on his golf cart, or working on a new project with Denis. He enjoyed cheering on Jordan at hockey and baseball, or helping his Sam and Brittany with absolutely anything they needed. He was beyond proud of his family, and we absolutely adored him.

He leaves behind the love of his life, his queen, best friend, and sweetheart since grade 7, Shelly. Daughters Samantha and Brittany, son-in-law Patrick Donio. Parents George and Margaret Anne. Brother David (Lori), and brother-in-law Danny Barnwell (Fernanda). His pride and joy - grandsons Jordan Hanlan and Brody Joynson. His bonus daughter and grandkids Brenda, Houston and Khloe Nielsen. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, and brothers and sisters in blue.

Dale was predeceased by his sister Karen Barnwell, grandfathers George Robertson and Issac Clarke, Grandmothers Peggy Robertson and Dorothy Clarke.

A Celebration of Life will be held in place of a formal funeral, Wednesday, August 20th, at the Slovak Legion from 5:30-7:30.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or Charity of Your Choice.

You'll always be with us, Daddy. We love you so much… We've got it from here xo

Yesterday

I was so deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dale. Please know that my heart is with you Dave, you're Mom, Dab and your family during this difficult time.

One memory that immediately came to mind was an old black-and-white photo taken on Hemlock Place at my grandmother´s-Dave, me, my brother Tim, and Dale, all bundled up in our snow gear, lined up single file, grinning wide with toothless smiles. We must have been no older than seven, six, and five. It´s a memory of pure innocence and joy, and I´ll always hold it close.

Your brother will be remembered with warmth, and I hope you find comfort in the love of family, friends, and the memories you shared.

With deepest sympathy,
Ric

Yesterday

Dale and I worked together on Unit 6 of the TBPS often as partners. He was very capable and generous with his experience and knowledge and a good partner to have in any circumstance. We became friends as well and shared the love of family and the pride of serving and protecting our community. Dale had a strong sense of honour and duty as well as morals virtue ethics and principles. I can´t think of another officer or citizen who gave his all for family and friends as well as his beliefs. His passing is a personal loss for me as i shall miss his warmth and openness and his quick and ready smile and laugh. Dale was one of those people you immediately liked and respected because he was genuine. May Dale live on in all our hearts as a shining example of Father Friend and a really good human - with love and respect for Dale and to his family - Daniel Smetana.

I have known Dale for only 3 years but in that time he became a dear friend. Always smiling, always willing to lend a hand. Just an all around nice guy. You will be missed dearly
