Mr. Daniel John Pettit, age 70, passed away peacefully with family by his side at St. Joseph's Hospital on August 5, 2025.
Danny was born on August 22, 1954 in Fort William. He attended Riverdale Public School and Northwood High School.
Dan held various positions including truck driving prior to being hired at Can Car / Bombardier where he spent 30 years before retiring.
Dan's interests were anything antique and old; he also loved history. He loved to fish, hunt, target shoot, attend swap meets, gun shows, thrift stores and yard sales. He humorously referred to himself as the jack-of-all-trades, master of none. He did pencil sketching, loved working with auto mechanics, antique cars, clocks, watches and firearms. His number one retirement hobby was tinkering.
Dan is survived by his wife Kathy; children Carrie (Ian), Russell (Stephanie) and Meghan (Reid); grandchildren Taylor, Gavin and Keiren; his siblings Ellen and Steve; cousin Wayne and numerous other relatives.
He is predeceased by his father John and mother Reta; numerous Pettit relatives and many loved and appreciated friends.
Thank you to all staff at the TBRHSC Cancer Clinic including Dr. Hagerty and Dr. Aseyev; Nurses of the Chemotherapy Department (who calmed our nerves and educated us); Dr. Simpson and ward of the Palliative Care Unit; family physician Dr. Robrock; and the Nurses of V.O.N. Much appreciation to Dennis Seagers for lawn mowing and Ramond DeCorte for snow removal when Dan was attending cancer treatments. Thank you Westfort Robin's Coffee Club for the laughter and support (his personal mental-healthcare team). Thank you Jack Webster for much needed escapes to Thrift shops. Thank you also to numerous friends from work, fishing and hunting trips, and yard-sale and thrift shop adventures.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Unifor Union Hall, 112 Gore Street.
