DARIO and DANIEL CONT
It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we honour the lives of Dario Cont, and his son, Daniel. Their journeys, marked by resilience, hard work, and an unwavering love for people, have left an indelible mark on Thunder Bay and beyond.
Dario Cont: A Foundation of Strength
Born in 1954 in the quiet, scenic village of Canebola in Northern Italy, Dario's story was one of courage from the very start. In 1956, as a young boy of only two years, he and his mother made the long journey across the ocean to Port Arthur to reunite with his father and begin a new life in Canada.
Dario was the embodiment of dedication. He spent his life as a fixture of the local automotive community, working for 16 years at Ace Tire before transitioning to Goodyear (later Fountain Tire), where he served with loyalty and expertise for 35 years.
In 1979, Dario married the love of his life, Gerlynn, beginning a beautiful chapter of partnership and family that would define his legacy.
Daniel Cont: A Spirit of Joy and Resilience
In 1980, Dario and Gerylnn welcomed their son, Daniel. A fighter from his first breath, Daniel arrived as a premature baby and was sent to SickKids in Toronto. Against the odds, his incredible will to live saw him through those early challenges - a strength he carried throughout his entire life.
Daniel was a man of many talents and even more heart. He was a familiar and friendly face across Thunder Bay, working at the Eaton's call centre, and various shops in Intercity Mall, including International, Randy River, and Champs Sports. He truly found his calling in retail and community service, sharing his time and energy with Grace Place and DJing music. Known for his vibrant personality, Daniel had a passion for songwriting, expressing his soul through music; magic tricks, bringing a sense of wonder to everyone he met; and connection, as he lived for interacting with people and making them smile.
In August of 2010, Daniel met his 'rock', Amanda Vondette, who remained a steady and loving presence in his life.
Their Lasting Legacy
Dario and Daniel will be profoundly missed by Gerlynn Cont and Amanda Vondette, as well as their numerous relatives in both Italy, and Thunder Bay. Their absence will also be felt by the countless friends whose lives they touched with their kindness and humour.
Cremation has taken place, and a Funeral Service to celebrate their lives will be held later on in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SickKids.
Love is patient, love is kind.
Arrangements have been entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
