DARLENE SITKO Obituary
(Fummerton) November 5th, 1956 - October 12th, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Darlene Sitko (Fummerton) announce her peacefully passing after a long courageous battle with cancer on October 12th, 2024 surrounded by so much love.
Born on November 5th, 1956 in Schreiber, Ontario where she spent most of her years. Dar, as she was affectionately known, spent three years living in Kingston studying Nursing before she returned to Schreiber where she spent the remainder of her life. She had a long career at the Mill until her retirement in 2015. Dar had a huge love for sports including hockey, curling, golf and baseball, all of which she excelled at. Another one of Dar's passions was being on Lake Superior in her boat, the "MEST UP," out-fishing everyone. A day at the Slate Islands was always a perfect day for Dar. Scott's Camp at Hydro Bay has always been a major part of her life where many wonderful memories were made. Dar was the family spark plug; she loved to joke and tease everyone, no one was exempt from her shenanigans!
Dar is survived by her loving Husband Ron, her children Tyler (Aaron), Malorey (Adam), Emily, and Steven, and her beloved grandchildren Marleigh, Isobel and Keltie. She is also survived by her siblings Anna (Mike), Ron (Deb), Shirley (Paul) and her adopted sister Lola (Stan) as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. Dar was predeceased by her father Elton, her mother Mary, her brothers Mark and Gord, in-laws Dolly, Walter and Rick, and many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dar's family would like to thank Doctors Anthes, Aseyev, and Sellick of the Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Centre and the entire nursing staff of the McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay for treating us like family.
A Celebration of Life for Dar will be held at Holy Angels Church on Friday, October 18th, 2024 at 11:00AM followed by a reception at the Schreiber Recreation Centre. If desired donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Fund or the McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay.
