DARYLE RAJALA Obituary
DARYLE ANN RAJALA
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Daryle Ann Rajala (née McCullough), beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend to many, on April 8th, 2024.
Born on September 14th, 1950 in Port Arthur, Ontario, Daryle spent her youth enjoying the beauty of Northwestern Ontario, in particular the shores of Lake Superior. Daryle met Glenn on a blind date in 1968 and they began their over 50 year love story. Daryle's natural compassion drew her to the nursing profession, and she graduated in 1972 from The Lakehead Regional School of Nursing. Daryle moved to North Vancouver in the summer of 1974, where she continued her passionate 17 year career as a nurse in the ER at Lions Gate Hospital before moving along to her second career raising her loving family. Daryle loved North Vancouver for its nature and trails where she made endless memories with her close friends and family.
Daryle was a proud and loving mother and wife who approached life with courage and resilience. She was an active member of her community who embraced volunteerism, and touched many neighbours, business owners and acquaintances with her bright energy, laugh and caring interest. In 2011, Daryle was awarded a Vital Link Award by the British Columbia Ambulance Service for her role as a life saving community first responder in an incident of cardiac arrest. She will be remembered as an avid gardener, a talented baker, hiker, reader, skier, lover of arts, antiques, fashion, and all dogs and animals.
Daryle was predeceased by her mother Beverley, father Sherman, grandfather Harold, and grandmother Amy. She is survived by her husband of 44 years Glenn, and her children Amelia, Kai, and Devin and dog Seamus, along with her brother Brian (Johanna). The family would like to express immense gratitude to the entire team at Lions Gate Hospital Medical Oncology Clinic: Dr. Avanessian and Daryle's many favourite nurses for years of kindness, care and support; along with many other caring nurses and health providers in the community who served as sources of strength. Daryle expressed continued curiosity about nursing education and recently asked for a memorial scholarship to be created at BCIT to support those entering or returning to the profession.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the BC-SPCA, an animal rescue of your choice, or the Cancer Care Campaign at the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation in her honour. A private memorial service will take place next month.
