David Coons Obituary

Shortly before midnight on Christmas Eve, (John) David Coons, passed away peacefully at Hospice after a sudden decline in health. Born in Bracebridge, Ontario on April 10, 1947, he and his younger sisters were raised in Algonquin Park. Dave graduated from Guelph and Toronto Universities before moving to Thunder Bay in 1971. An avid outdoorsman, Dave found enjoyable employment with the MNR until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed travelling across North America, travelling abroad, and spent a year in Australia. A resident of Kaministiquia, he was very involved in the community; serving for many years as president of the Kaministiquia Community Centre, member of the disking club, the fire team, and participated in many talent shows. Dave took great pride in the achievements of his beloved daughter. Dave is sorely missed by his daughter MaryEllen Browne; grand-puppy Axel; sisters Mary Healy, Bonita Coons (Eric), Clarita Wilson (Chris); also several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to The Rev. George Porter, the Kowlessar Family, the staff on 2A at TBRHSC and at St. Joseph's Hospice. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held this summer.
