David Desrosiers Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Armand Desrosiers, 85, of Terrace Bay, ON. Dave passed away peacefully at the McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay on January 2, 2018 after a short battle with Cancer.

Born in Kapuskasing, ON. on December 10, 1932 to Arthur and Adelaide Desrosiers. Dave enjoyed playing hockey in the north and played through the ranks up to the Sudbury Wolves Junior A, which led to a tryout with the Montreal Canadiens. In 1954, Dave moved to Terrace Bay to start his family and work at Kimberly-Clark. In 1966, he quit the mill to purchase the White Rose Service Station which became Island View Shell Service and began his career as a successful businessman. The business grew and expanded and with his son Curtis it became Dave Desrosiers and Son Ltd. Dave was affectionately known throughout the North Shore as ‘Big D', this became his trademark during his construction era.

Dave was a pillar of the community and his positive influence was felt by so many. He was the last living member of the inaugural executive that built the Aguasabon Golf Club. Dave was awarded an honorary life membership to the golf club as well as the Terrace Bay Curling Club. Dave served on Terrace Bay town council for six years as a councillor. He was recently inducted into the Township of Terrace Bay Wall of Fame as a builder, sponsor and hockey player on the 1961 Terrace Bay Superiors Hockey Club.

Dave is survived by his wife Marjorie Desrosiers, his children Curtis (Laurie), Adele, Louise (Raymond) Bernard and Denyse (Bart). Step-children David (Morria) Liebrock, Mark Liebrock (deceased) and Janice (Mario) Veneziano. Seven grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Bradley, Zoey and Ellyanna. Also survived by his sister Georgette Morin. The family would like to thank Dr. Shaheen and the staff at the McCausland Hospital for their care and compassion.

It was his request and wish to be cremated with no memorial service. His request will be respected. Those wishing to make a donation in Dave's honour may do so at a charity of your choice.

Our sincere condolences to the entire family. They say that a father's guiding hand always sits on the shoulder of his children and although he may be in a better place, losing such a strong figure in life is one of the hardest things many of us will go through. Our thoughts are with you. Monique Vezina and Alfonso Furgiuele
