David Emery Obituary

March 19, 1930 to
May 22, 2015
David Emery, son of the late Herbert James Emery and the late Phyllis Gwendolyn (Young) Emery, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2015 in Ottawa, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his wife Sisko Kaarina (nee Niskanen). David is survived by his children James (Rob McAllister), Sheila (Doug Chisholm), Laura (Gonzalo García) and Audrey (Michele Capurro), grandchildren Sarah Pyne (Chisholm), Stuart and David Chisholm, Andrés and Isabella Garcia Emery, and Sisko Capurro, his brothers Victor and John and their families, his companion of many years Solange Hébert, his extended family, and many friends near and far. Dad attended Trinity College School in Port Hope. He then went to Western, Queens, and Harvard where he received his PHD in Geology. He spent most of his career in Yellowknife and retired in 1989 as the President and CEO of Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines. Dad had a gentle and generous spirit combined with a keen sense of humour and joy of life. He loved the bush and he loved welcoming people into his home. Above all though, Dad lived his life for his wife and family, showing each of us unconditional love, compassion, and support. We wish to acknowledge the tremendous care provided by Drs. Canil, Morgan, Chasen, and Brodeur and the teams at Ottawa General, Ottawa Civic, and Bayshore. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in St. Matthews Anglican Church, (Ottawa). Please consider making a donation in David's memory to The Canadian Cancer Society (or another charity of your choice).

Dear Sheila,Doug,and family,
Our thoughts are with you at this very difficult time. We are so sorry to learn of David's death. David, father, grandfather, friend was a true gentleman. In his quiet and gentle manner he was always so welcoming with his warm smile and a story. He will be greatly missed. The soirees on the front deck of the 'green camp' at WLL will not be the same. With sincere sympathy, Katie Heikkinen & Rob Cameron, Loon Lake

So sad to hear of David's passing, we were painting buddies at the RA centre in Cecile's class, and I have many happy memories of painting "en plein air" or just sketching at the Experimental Farm with David.
We always loved to hear his reports about traveling to the Canadian North!
sincere sympathy
