David Kaizer Obituary

Dave Kaizer, age 60, of Terrace Bay, Ontario passed away at Sunnybrook Health Services Centre following surgery. Cecilia, his wife was at his bedside. Born in Gold River, Nova Scotia, Dave spent his youth in Mount Pleasant. Following High School he obtained a mechanic's diploma then worked at Scotia Chev and Olds in Halifax. Dave had a life long passion with automobiles from rebuilding, repairing and then the thrill of the trial run. Another passion was the sea. He worked in the marine industry in the engine rooms of steam and diesel powered ships - first sailing on the Scallop Dragger 'Shirley and Joyce' out of Lunenburg followed by a season on a Great Lakes oil tanker. Returning to Nova Scotia he sailed on ships owned by the Fundy Gypsum Company of Hantsport, the Canadian Oceanographic boats and finally sailed on the 'MV OK Service X' from La Have to destinations in the Caribbean, Central and South America. Between trips at sea he thoroughly enjoyed his door-to-door salesmanship experiences. In the late 60's Dave became employed at the Nova Scotia Power Commission, Halifax, and then transferred to the Tuft's Cove Generating Station obtaining his First Class Stationary Engineer's ticket. 1976, the Manitoba Forestry Resources (MANFOR) in the Pas, Manitoba, employed him. 1979 Dave moved to Terrace Bay, Ontario to start work with Kimberly Clark as a shift foreman. He eventually attained the position of Chief Engineer in the Steam Plant. His years of dedicated service with Kimberly Clark ended in 1999 due to illness. Dave's dedication went beyond his work with activities in the community such as being an active member of the Terrace Bay Minor Hockey and Ringette, a member of the Community Church Board of Stewards, Chairman of the Boy Scouts Group Committee and was instrumental in designing and erecting the Whitesands Boy Scout Camp and was a member of the McCausland Hospital Board of Governors. His other interests included skydiving, flying, singing and playing the guitar. He was also known for his ability to have engaging conversation with people anywhere or anytime and as a result he has touched many lives. Dave is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his mother Lailah Johnson, wife Cecilia (Knox) of 32 years, their two children Renee (Lawrence) Kusik and Stephen. Dave was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren Darian and Zander were the apples of 'Poppy's' eye. He is fondly remembered by his sisters Muriel (Eddie) Carver and Mellie Hynick; brothers Kennie (Colleen) Kaizer, Kerry Kaizer and Larry (Majorie) O'Brien. Also sisters Linda (Vernon) Hatt, Pat (Donald) Mingo, Fanny (Lester) Lantz and brothers Bobbie (Ann Marie), Clyde (Nancy) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Eldred; foster parents Minnie and Stephen Conrad and brother-in-law Reginald Hynick Sr. Integrity, justice and a true sense of fair play were extremely important to him. Dave was forever seeking new challenges. His motto was 'if the job is impossible, it's just going to take me a little longer'. Following Dave's wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will occur. As expressions of sympathy, donations would be appreciated in Dave's memory to the McCausland Hospital Long Term Care Project or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation."
