DAVID KORHONEN Obituary
It is with profound sadness we announce that at age 66, November 7, 2024, Dave died tragically in Surrey, BC. He will be remembered and laid to rest in Thunder Bay on May 23, 2025 at a Memorial Service hosted by his five sisters. Dave was born January 10, 1958; attended Five Mile and Algonquin Avenue Public Schools. A 1976 graduate of Hammarskjold High, he was a member on the wrestling, gymnastics & badminton teams. He experienced summer as a cadet with the Thunder Bay Militia at the Armouries. As a teen, was employed as a gas jockey at 'Ed's Triangle', after graduation worked as a Grain Handler at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool 6 & 7. He enjoyed skiing as a winter pastime and volunteered with the local Ski Patrol. These skills led to volunteering at the 1995 World Nordic Ski Championships (Rendezvous Festival, outdoor entertainment). Volunteering later that year, he played the roles as Davey the Dinosaur & Pink Panther for the first inaugural 'Some Kinda Christmas Show' at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium, later working 'the call' with IATSE in 1996 for "CATS the Musical' just before moving west. In Calgary, Dave was employed in metal cladding until 2019, travelling further west for a family Christmas in Surrey BC, he never left, working odd jobs there, until his passing.
Dave was predeceased by his parents Paul & Eva, two brothers Adrian & Arnold, and brother-in-law Dennis Skinner.
He is survived by his twin sister Arlene (Kevin) King, sisters Paula Skinner, Evelyn (Glenn) Richardson, Dolores, Jennifer, their families, as well as cousins and friends in Canada and Finland.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Oliver Road Community Centre, 563 Oliver Road. Internment to follow after 4 pm, at the Tarmola Cemetery, Onion Lake Road.
