It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of David Ian MacDonald, 49 years, on Dec 21, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Thunder Bay, David graduated from Westgate CVI and Confederation College. In 2000 he began employment with KGS Group Consulting Engineers. In 2006 he received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree at Lakehead University and two years later was appointed manager of the KGS Mechanical Engineering department. David was a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Association of Energy Engineers as well as the Port Arthur Masonic Lodge #499.
David had an unending sense of humour that brought laughter to people everyday. His social media posts were anticipated by those who knew him and cherished his quick wit.
He liked to use his culinary skills to try new recipes for his family and friends. If he wasn't cooking he was off to a new restaurant or exotic location to experience culinary adventures...ones often too spicy or strange for anyone but him. Very proud of his Scottish heritage, David developed a taste for haggis and tried to convince all around him to just give it a try!
His travels brought him to many places including some haunted ones! His ability to recall his encounter with the super natural made you feel like you were there sharing the experience with him.
An avid fan of the NFL Green Bay Packers, he never missed a game.
David enjoyed his weekly recreational pool league with good friends and many nights ran the table to another win!
He was an animal lover and cherished his dogs Charlie and Maddie.
Survived by spouse Laura Zuliani, mother Marjorie, aunts Betty Palmer and Thelma Gray (nee Palmer), mother-in-law Dina Zuliani, in-laws Sandra (Paul) Ryder, Marsha (Bob) Lemax, Gary (Michelle) Zuliani and a niece and numerous nephews and cousins and beloved companion Maddie.
Predeceased by his father Ian MacDonald, father-in-law Louis Zuliani, grandparents Charles and Lillian Palmer, Mary Ann and John MacDonald and uncles Norman Gray, Murdo and Evander "Scotty" MacDonald, Bill and Dick Palmer and little buddy Charlie.
The family expresses a special thank you to doctors and staff of the Cancer Centre, St Joseph's Hospice and the Oncology Unit at TBRHSC.
As per David's wishes no service will be held. Family members will gather for a private interment at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to Northern Cancer Fund or an animal charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

I am shocked. Dave and myself attended Lakehead University together. He had a good sense of humor and always enjoy a good jug of beer. My condolences to his wife and the rest of his family and friends.

My deepest condolences to you Laura and your families. I worked with David in 2013/2014 and he was such a pleasure to work with and to come to know. He was the ultimate professional who always had a smile. His quick wit always induced laughter to those he was around. We shared a fondness of good food and scotch. We shared many conversations surrounding which restaurants were amazing, which recipes were incredible and which scotch we preferred. We friended each other on Facebook and would often comment on eachother's "foodie" pics. When discussing scotch he would often mention Glenfiddich. On New Year's Eve my boyfriend and I raised a glass to David using an 18 year old, Single Malt Glenffidich that I think he would have enjoyed. He was a gentle soul that will be greatly missed.
