David Murray Obituary

Mr. David John Murray, age 90 years, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in Pioneer Ridge, surrounded by his family.

David was born on September 17, 1931 in Hove, Great Britain. He immigrated to Canada in 1959 and met his wife Eileen in Ottawa, Ontario. They married in 1961 and started their life together. David started his career with Texaco Canada in Ottawa and retired in Thunder Bay circa 1996 after 30 plus years with the Company. David was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club for many years. He served as President for the Rotary Club of Fort William, and contributed to many community projects over the years as a Rotarian. He also served as District Governor, Rotary International for the years 1996-1997. He was honoured with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award by The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. The Rotary moto is Service above Self, and something he followed throughout his life.

David enjoyed camping and travelling with the RV, something he and Eileen enjoyed together for many years. Later in life he enjoyed his visits to Mesa with Bessie. Throughout his life he enjoyed keeping fit by participating in hiking, cross country skiing and swimming.

David was predeceased by his first wife Eileen, in 2009.

He is survived by his second his wife Bessie Skerget; twin daughters Dale (Dan) Kuokka and Dawn (Patrick Leahy) Murray; son Kingsley Murray (Alexis); and his granddaughter Arden Leahy. He is also survived by his cousin Nigel (Suzanne) Clarke, in London, England.

As per David's wishes cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT FUNERAL CHAPEL, 420 Gore Street West at James.

If friends desire, memorial donations in memory of David to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated, or do a good deed within your community, something David would have loved.

The family of David Murray would like to thank the staff and nurses of Plaza 1 in Pioneer Ridge for the compassion and care shown to him and his family.
