A new star shines in the sky for David Young (DSY) who passed peacefully Friday September 3, 2021 surrounded by family Carol, Jordan (Kristin), and Jenna (Phil) following a brief battle with cancer. David was well-known for his sharp mind and quick wit and while devoted to his law practice for more than four decades, always prioritized time outdoors, particularly near or on Lake Superior. He was a proud father to Jordan and Jenna and "Woo" to Dylan, Simon and Navy. The family extends great appreciation to the palliative care teams at Thunder Bay Regional and St. Joseph's Care Group Hospice. Friends and family wishing to offer a gesture of condolence are asked to consider a donation to Thunder Bay Shelter House.

"It takes a long time to make an old friend". Growing up with David and right up to his passing we were often bonded like "Coyote" companions (brothers). His words and observations were never dull and always allowed our conversations to soar, frequently out of control. His lengthy legal work history exposed him to a lot of "raw meat" for his table only fueling this style of "word mechanics". Lawyers have said to me that David would have made the type of grassroots judge that Canada and the world desperately needs. It was an honour to journey along with Carol, Jordan, Jenna, & family in tribute to his passing.
May he rest in peace with God's blessings.

Six plus years ago I worked at (PAL) Marina in the boater service office.
Dave would pop by and we would have the most hilarious conversations. His sense of humour was unmatched and always made for a better day.
So sorry for your loss we will all miss him.

I got to know David first as a fellow camper at Sandy Beach. He was a fun guy to spend time with during summer camp activities. Gruff sense of humour with a big heart. A real character as well. We built a treehouse in the bush behind his camp one summer and he wrote the following on the front door. “ No girls allowed unless over sixteen and under twenty four”. RIP David.

I was very sad to hear of David's passing. I first met him 27 years ago while working at the courthouse. He was such a character and always made us laugh! The last conversation I had with him was when he had just retired. I told him "Don't be a stranger and come by and visit us still at the office!" We will sure miss our chats with him at the office. My condolences to the family. He will be missed by so many .

Moments before learning of Dave's passing, I happened to see one of his former clients crossing the street, and immediately remembered Dave's description of this poor man as being "big as a fridge and just about as smart."
The world is a little dimmer place now without Dave's wit and wisdom, but he will live on with those who remember him and have stories to tell.
My deepest condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to David's family. I remember David from my Sandy Beach days as a young kid and more specifically, I have wonderful memories of his great, and often satirical, sense of humour and wry smile in our high school days. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to see him in over fifty years, but he left a very positive mark, always the sign of someone with a dynamic spirit who has a great deal to share with others. I have no doubt at all that he impacted the lives of a lot of people in a very positive, generous manner throughout his life. So sorry to learn of his passing.

My sincere condolences to Carol, Jordan, Jenna and family.
I worked with and for David for many years and enjoyed the witty banter. He would often congratulate me if I replied to him with a "punny". Will miss his visits to the office and his great wit.

The one morning I was working in Bail Court..... Justice of the Peace asks client "Who is your lawyer?" and as the words "David Young" were hanging in the air. David comes bursting through the doors...strolls up to the podium....
"I think my friend the Crown Attorney will agree to release my client"
Assistant Crown Attorney (Gordon Fillmore) - "To be Frank, No!"
DSY - MY NAME IS NOT FRANK!!!!!

Deeply saddened & shocked! David was an amazing lawyer! I just had the pleasure of reconnecting with him in June/July ...as I did my ‘daily walks’ there at the marina. Big smiles & good conversations were his specialty. My condolences to his wife Carol and their children. He truly was ‘ONE’ of a kind... a GREAT guy!
