DEBORAH LEROUX Obituary

DEBORAH LEROUX
Deborah (Debbie) Leroux (née Trevisanutto) passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Debbie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and cherished friend.

Debbie was born on February 14, 1948 in Thunder Bay, Ontario and was a lifelong resident of Current River. She attended Lakeview High School and Lakehead University. She was a dedicated teacher with the Thunder Bay CDSB for over 25 years, and you could hardly go anywhere that you didn't bump into someone who excitedly exclaimed, "Hi Mrs. Leroux. You were my favourite teacher!" Her dedication to teaching and her students extended well beyond the classroom. Debbie was an active member of Our Lady of Loretto Church and the CWL (50 year member). Debbie was dedicated and hard working and balanced demands with grace. She returned to teaching full time while her children were young and completed her university degree at the same time with honours, winning the Chancellor's medal for the highest marks for an undergraduate part time student.

Debbie was an avid golfer and bridge player where she built and fostered so many special friendships. She was an extraordinary cook (no recipes) for Roger and for everyone, there was no group too small or too large. Italian cuisine, butter tarts, biscotti only to name a few. She really enjoyed her regular Boulevard Lake walks.

She and Roger enjoyed travelling to many places in the world, including China, Alaska, Finland, Portugal, Spain, Mexico and many other destinations. They also enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren in Southern Ontario. More recently, special times were shared with family trips with Roger, her children and all her grandchildren to Blue Mountain, Mont Tremblant and Christmas in Oakville. A summer evening in the screened in porch at their Whitefish Lake camp or swimming in the pool were also favourite gatherings.

Family and friends were the centre of Debbie's life. Debbie received so much joy from her grandchildren and loved to spoil them. Debbie was dedicated, loving, and kind. She had this special way of making you feel like the most important person in the room. She touched many lives through the years.

Debbie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Roger, her husband of 56 years and their children Kelly (Rob), Andrea (Darryl), and Michael (Janis). Nonna will always be lovingly remembered by her cherished grandchildren Devin (Lana), Hailey, Megan, Kayla, and Graham. Debbie will also be lovingly remembered by her siblings Kenny (Julie), Brenda (David), Jimmy (Irene), Linda (Gord) and her siblings-in-law, Raymond, Marion, Russell (Tuula), Danis (Krys), and Hank (Michelle), along with all of her nieces and nephews.

Debbie was predeceased by her father, Guido and her mother Yolanda, her father-in-law Henry and mother-in-law Martha, as well as her brother-in-law, Wilfred, and her nieces Alison and Suzanne.

Our family would like to thank the first responders who cared for Debbie and the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for their care.

A celebration of Debbie's life and Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Francis Pudicherry on Friday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Our Lady of Loretto Elevator Fund, in lieu of flowers.

Debbie will be greatly missed. She has left a beautiful legacy and her spirit lives on.

Sending my condolences to all. I was saddend to get a message from Sharon Taylor letting me know of this sad news. I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Leroux as a teacher in Grade 6 when she filled in for her Sister in law's maternity leave way back at St. Bernards school . I was so fortunate to reconnect with her as her and my mom were such good friends. I will smile as I think of them up there playing a game of bridge or golf together!!

In reading of Debbie´s life it is easy to see the person she was; and it shows through her family. We are so sad for you to lose your Mom and Grandmother and life long partner for Roger, we hope remembering the good stuff will bring you some peace, even a smile of a happy time remembered.
