DEREK AMADEO Obituary
Derek James Amadeo, aged 38 passed away unexpectedly the morning of Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Derek was born March 25, 1987 to his loving parents Irene and Dave Amadeo. Derek was raised in Thunder Bay, attending Westmount Public School and then Westgate. Growing up, he had a passion for wrestling, video games, and was always a jokester; the family lovingly giving him the nickname Durkee Boy. Derek always had a passion for working out and was a long-time member of Fit4less where he was able to share that joy with so many others.
Derek attended Confederation College for both Police Foundations and Human Resources Management. After a long journey to find himself, Derek started his dream job at Superior Elevator, an accomplishment he was so proud of.
Derek's son Lucas was the absolute light of his life. The time they shared together was full of magic. They shared a love of video games, animals, and adventures. Derek and Lucas' mom Krystal have raised Lucas to be a kind and caring person, and Derek saw that every day in his son. Derek was so proud of the person Lucas is becoming and loved being his Dad.
Derek is predeceased by his brother Dusty, his Grandpa Wayne, his Grandma Arlene, his stepdad Mike, and his cousin Mel.
Derek leaves behind his son Lucas Amadeo, his partner Laura Sutherland, his "Ma" Irene Amadeo, his Dad Dave Amadeo, his nephew Antonio Dimen, his grandparents Lona McDonald, Dave McDonald, Frank Amadeo, and his 4 beloved cats. Derek has a large extended family both blood and chosen who will miss him forever.
A celebration of Derek's life will be held at a later date. The family extends our thanks to the first responders who did everything they could. At this time, the family wishes for privacy as we grieve the loss of this wonderful man. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the DEK Foundation, the TBDHS, or Shelter House.

Irene my dear friend and beautiful soul. My heart breaks for the pain you are feeling for the loss of your beautiful son Derek. You always said he was special. Derek was always a friend to me. We trained as wrestlers in high school and we would play guitar together as well. I didn´t see him much after HS but he always was someone I respected. Very sad to hear he passed so young. May he rest easy.

Derek was such a great man, I will forever cherish the memories we made in 2019 I remember when I first met Derek he was working as a correction officer, he always looked so handsome in a uniform!
