Derek Edward Lyons died peacefully on October 10, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Derek was born September 13, 1971, to Ken and Shirley Lyons. He was a member of Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation and lived all his life in Thunder Bay. He graduated from Confederation College with a diploma in Business Administration and continued his education at Queen's University and obtained a degree in Law. He then entered Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Bar becoming a corporate lawyer. he served multiple Indigenous organizations, namely Nan Legal Services and Matawa. Derek enjoyed fishing with his father. He enjoyed attending concerts and even took his father to a Bon Jovi concert. He, also, enjoyed travelling with trips to New York City, Paris, France, London, England, and Ireland. Derek was predeceased by his father, Ken, and brother David, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Derek is survived by his mother Shirley, aunts, uncles, and many cousins and close friends. As per Derek's wishes, no funeral services will be held.
