Uncle Donnie loved his family and friends very much. Not living close anymore we didn't get to see each other in person as often as we would like. I miss our phone calls talking about hockey, his trails, weather, road trips, and updates on whatever was happening in Thunder Bay. Donnie was always ready to chat and listen, sharing events that were going on in each other's lives. From growing up in Thunder Bay, going back home for visits, or when Uncle Donnie came to visit in BC, he was up for adventures and up for having fun, and wanted to make sure we were having fun. But mostly, I think he was happy just spending time with us, just as we were with him. To me that shows how much Uncle Donnie truly cared about us and the people in his lives. The time I spent with Uncle Donnie, for as long as I can remember, I always cherished hanging out him. I could always count on Uncle Donnie and I've learned a lot from him. He is deeply missed.

Donnie became a part of our family when we were still in our teens. Mom and Dad saw something special in Donnie and opened their hearts and home to him. He became our chosen big brother to five girls, a much loved uncle, great uncle and brother-in-law. After Dad´s passing, he was there for Mom and they enjoyed a very close bond. Losing Donnie has meant losing an important and integral part of our family. Our hearts are broken.
Donnie also left behind many childhood and lifelong friends who I know are also deeply impacted by Donnie´s passing. Friends who shared his love watching the car races, taking in hockey games, fishing and listening to the blues. You all meant a great deal to him. He loved his trails and catching pics of the wildlife.Donnie was the strongest, bravest man I knew. The way he stood up to his cancer and fought it with everything he had, for 10 long years. Thank you to all that helped and supported him during his long battle. Thank you to the doctors, who fought so hard for him. We appreciate you all so very much. We will hold our brother, brother-in-law and uncle in our hearts forever.
