DON HILL
Donald Lawrence Hill passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, in Atikokan, at the age of 91. Born September 14, 1933, in Fort Frances, Don spent his early years in the heart of Northwestern Ontario. His life spanned over nine decades marked by dedication to family and a deep connection to his roots. Don and his late beloved wife, Ellen Norine Hill, built a family together that brought them great pride and joy. Don loved our little town of Atikokan. One of one of his proudest achievements, as chairman of the Atikokan Hospital Board, was his role in building the Extended Care Wing. In his later years he spent countless hours making memories at our local Legion with Ellen and other family and friends. Don's final years were spent enjoying the simple things like reminiscing on a life long and well lived, watching the seasons change and the birds out his front window. He enjoyed spending time with family, playing pool, and sharing meals with his good friend Larry Knowles. We are forever grateful for the friendship and support Larry provided over the past decade. He is lovingly remembered by his children Donna (Jim) Mallard, David (Than) Hill, Linda (Eric) Ranta, and Sharon (Greg) Pero. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) Atwood and Adam Pero. He is also survived by his brother David (Reg) Hill, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Ellen, he was also pre-deceased by his brother Victor George Hill. A celebration of life will be held at the Atikokan Legion #145 on September 30, at 1 pm. To honour him, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Atikokan General Hospital or to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #145.
