It is of great sadness that the family of Donald (Sweep) Coulter announce his passing on April 7, 2022 at the age of 89. He died peacefully at TBRHSC with his family at his side.
He grew up on Ruttan Street next to the Harty's and became long-time friends with Elmer (Mike) Harty who then became his brother-in-law. Mrs. Harty gave him the nickname Sweet Pea that later became Sweep. Don was know as Sweep by most.
He attended Cornwall School, Shuniah School, Port Arthur Collegiate and Hillcrest High School (TECH). He was a member of the North End Rec for over 20 years working at the winter carnivals giving rides on his skidoo and coaching hockey and broomball. He played the accordion and piano. He worked at Ontario Hydro for over 30 years. After retirement he travelled in the winter with his brother Bob, to Arizona and Nevada. Dad enjoyed spending time at camp at Crow Lake in Dorion with his grandsons and his best four legged buddy Taz. His brother-in-law and close friend Roddy McDonald spent time going on many fishing trips with him.
His family was most important to him, having family dinners and gatherings and having a few beers with his grandsons. He enjoyed watching sports, nature shows and will miss the caterpillars and butterflies this summer when they return.
He is survived by his brother Robert (Bob) Coulter, daughters Sandra Coulter, Linda Mitchell, grandsons James Mitchell & Glenn Mitchell (Camille) and great granddaughter Lavella Mitchell who he had a chance to meet and spend time with before his passing. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Lavilla (Livy), son-in-law Glenn Mitchell Sr. and sisters Edith and Carol.
He did not wish to have a funeral service but there will be a Celebration of Life later this summer. We would like to thank the staff of 3B for the excellent care.
Also thanks to Dr. Ward for being so compassionate with Dad. Thanks to Laurie Kroker, the Nurse Practitioner in Emergency for taking the time to listen to Dad.

Dear Sandra & Linda,
Thinking of you both with sympathy as you remember your Dad. I remember seeing him almost every time I visited Shipley Street, especially when Helen was living next door. I hope that, in time, you will find comfort in your many special memories.

Extending deepest sympathy to all of the family on the loss of your loved one. Your Dad worked with my father Eric Opas for many years with Ontario Hydro. My dad always talked fondly of him and shared many stories of the "Coulter boys". Perhaps they are once again trimming some trees and sharing more stories in heaven.
P.S. Give Tex a hug!
