DONALD HAMILTON Obituary

DONALD HAMILTON
It is with extreme sadness the family announces that Mr. Donald Hamilton, age 89 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday November 3, with his son by his side.

Don started working early in life as a telegraph boy at the age of 15, delivering telegraphs for CN. At age 17, he started working at Provincial Papers and remained there until early retirement. A few years after starting at the mill, he met and married Irene Johnson and together raised four children. His family was most important to him and throughout the years they enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He spent countless hours coaching hockey and baseball when his three sons were young.

After retirement, he and his wife Irene enjoyed travelling to the United States and throughout Canada. Gardening was also a favourite hobby and there was usually a large vegetable garden in the backyard and numerous flower beds throughout the yard.

He also liked to drive and he and Irene would take daily rides all around Thunder Bay's countryside. He continued to go for rides after losing his licence with son Don Jr. and his cousin and best friend Ken Eames.

Don will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by son Don Jr. (Rose), grandchildren Joey (Katherine) Paxson, Katie and Melissa Hamilton, Suzie (Thorin) Lane; great grandchildren Alexis, Lincoln, Darcy, Eric, Kross, Harold, Ivy, Eden, Lily and Miko, sister Heather (Bob) Taylor, special friend Lois Mauro. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

Don was predeceased by wife Irene, sons Kelly and Jimmy and daughter Holly; parents Bea and Red Hamilton, sister Darlene Eastman and brother Craig. Also predeceased by in-laws Hilda and Albin Johnson and Senja Moore.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all health care professionals and staff at Chartwell Thunder Bay for the support, caring and kindness shown to Don while he lived there; PSWs from Bayshore; and to Dr. Tara Spicer for her years of care while Don was her patient.

A memorial service for Don will take place on Wednesday November 22, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre presided by Pastor Mathew Diegel. Visitation will be held on hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Don's memory to the Charity of Your Choice.
